Box 1173 New York, NY 10156 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Phiota Leadership Fund have named Geraldine “Hermana Agate” Portillo one of two recipients for the 1st Annual 2012 Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI) Scholarship. Geraldine is a junior at the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She joined the Hermandad in Spring 2009, and has since been recognized as a passionate undergraduate member eager to lead her chapter through active involvement. As an Art History student minoring in Graphic Design she is also a creative addition to the National Marketing team. “I was on a work break when I received the news; I was shocked I got the award. It was a great surprise and I am very much looking forward to it!” Geraldine exclaimed. This opportunity was made available to all NALFO member organizations in hopes to help foster a diverse Greek experience and provide an undergraduate voice for our members. According to Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Executive Director, Francisco Lugo, “there is an importance of adding a dierent voice to the conversations which take place during the five day sessions.” The institute is seen as the premier leadership development experience for fraternity and sorority members. It features experiential learning through hands-on activities, an opportunity to meet fellow Greeks from all 50 states and Canada, and a curriculum that teaches you how to lead with courage and integrity. Geraldine concluded by saying, “I hope to expand my networking circle by meeting Greek leaders from all over the nation, enhance my leadership skills, and represent SIA and NALFO through my participation.
