From the very beginning, SHUKR has put the well-being of all of our employees as a central pillar of what our company was to

be built on, keeping in spirit with our name. Shukr in Arabic means gratitude, a key part of which is to show thanks to those who do us well. This includes our entire staff who have work hard to build Shukr into the most popular Islamic fashion brand in the world.

At the most basic level of showing thanks to our staff is to pay them a complete and fair wage and doing all we can to treat them well as commanded in our religion. Islamically, doing so is consid-ered just a basic level of faith. As a company set out to change the world, we aim to do more than just the basics. We ensure that all of our workers get paid well above market rate ensuring that the entire work day is full with shukr.

Beyond just our staff 's financial well-being, we actively seek their goodness in all aspects of their lives. In an industry where it's normal for garment workers to work nearly all day long, we ensure our workers work reasonable hours so that they can spend time with their loved ones. In an industry where it’s common for work-ers to only get one holiday a year we offer full religious and national holidays to ours.

We also see their spiritual growth as equally important. Not only do our workers get time off to pray but they are all allowed the extra time to go to the local mosque and pray in congregations so that they can be a part of their community. Although many of these rights may seem odd for professionals in the Western world where many basic rights have been won by workers decades ago, in the garment industry our worker rights are quite rare indeed as evident by the numbers of massive fires and deaths that have been plaguing Bangladesh over the past few years. We are on a mission to change this, leading first by example.

Unfortunately, reasonable hours of work and higher pay do add up into the cost of our clothing and cut into our profits, but we con-sider it a blessed cost, knowing that we are following the noble way of Islam.
