Introduction

Stratford AreaWatershedImprovementGroup(SAWIG) wasincorporated in2009 when it

became evident a community or-ganization was required to man-age the region’s water resources.

It was formed by a group of com-munity members concerned withthe health and sustainability of the Stratford watershed area. Theprocess began with regularly heldmeetings among interest groups;these included members of the

agricultural sector, landowners, gov-ernment representatives, as well asvarious local organizations. The resultof both the executive council and pub-lic meetings is a list of concerns andgoals to be addressed by the water-shed. A Watershed Coordinator wassubsequently hired to develop theManagement Plan for the Town of Stratford and participating surround-ing areas.
