Welcome to Creston, Iowa and the Shuey Stock Farms Annual Production Sale.

What an incredible year it has been, and what an exciting time to be in the cattle business. With record prices

across the board and an outlook that has never been better for the cow/calf producer.

We believe whole heartedly in the direction that our program is going over the past two years and also in the Red

Angus, Simmental and South Devon genetics that we have to offer. We believe in phenotypic excellence coupled

with real world practicality. Phenotypic traits such as body volume, structure, soundness, udder quality, and

disposition lead to efficiency. In our business of both the purebred and commercial cattle we know that none of this

would have existed without a strong cow family. Without those traits longevity can never be accomplished. That is

how the females within our purebred herd were selected and raised and how we will continue to push this program

forward.

As stated earlier, what an incredible year it has been. Not only for the beef industry, but for our program as well. In

2014 we exhibited the 2014 National and Reserve National Champion Bred and Owned females at the Fort Worth

Stock Show. In addition we also exhibited the Supreme Champion Red Angus Female at the North American

International Stock Show in Louisville, Kentucky. We then followed that up with exhibiting the 2015 Reserve

National Champion Pen of 3 females in Denver. Not to be out done our 2013 steer calf crop performed remarkably

well during the tough 2013-2014 winter. As a group they graded over 90% Choice & Prime with less than 4% Yield

Grade 4’s at 13 months of age. This data was good enough for the National Red Angus Gridmaster Award

qualifications. To date we are the only Red Angus breeder in North America to not only show a National Champion

Female but also win a Gridmaster award for carcass merit from the Red Angus Association. Something we have

done twice now. Finding and breeding these genetics is not easy. Finding and breeding these genetics in an eye

appealing package is even harder.

Beyond the awards is something that most people do not know about our operation. 2014 represented the 10th

year we have been utilizing South Devon genetics (2004), the 20th year we have collected carcass data on our

commercial steers (1994), the 30th year we have been raising purebred Red Angus genetics (1984), the 40th year we

have been raising purebred Simmental genetics (1974) and the 127th consecutive year our family has been farming

and raising cattle on the same land in Southeast, Nebraska (1887). While cattle operations may come and go, we

have been around a long time and plan on being so in the future.

The individuals before you are the very best we have to offer. As always they are available for viewing at any time.

We take great pride in our herd and will be happy to show you every aspect of it. The bulls are currently on feed

efficiency testing at Werner’s Bull Development in Diagonal, IA and will be there till the end of February. Three days

prior to the sale they will be transported to the Creston Livestock Auction. Contact any of our family members for

more information on the individuals or directions to viewing locations. All bulls will be fertility tested the day before

the sale. Please contact Creston Livestock Auction for online or phone bidding. Thank you once again for viewing

this offering. We think it is one of the best groups of cattle we have ever had the pleasure of raising.

Sale Order:

The Creston Livestock Auction will be having a “Bred Cow Sale” in conjuction with our sale. The sale will start at 11:00 a.m.

Bulls will sell first followed by open females and then bred cows. Creston Livestock may sell a few bred cows prior to the start

of the bulls selling depending on the number of cattle.

Guarantee:

All bulls will have a semen evaluation done by a licensed Veterinarian prior to the sale and a certificate will be furnished. Bulls

will carry the standard breeding guarantee of the American Red Angus Association. The commercial females will be sold

“guaranteed open”. They will be pregnancy examined prior to the sale. We removed all twin heifers from the sale.

Selling Procedure:

A sale order will be available prior to the sale. Bulls will be sold individually with one exception noted below. Females will be

sold in groups with the buyer taking a minimum of 5 head (gate cut). The winning bidder has the right to take all females in

the group along with the next groups depending on the sort.

Bull Retention:

For our own breeding program we need approximately 3-5 bulls every year. This year is no exception. In the fall of 2014 we

purchased the high selling Red Angus X Simmental crossbred bull at the Brown Ranch sale in Texas. Additionally, we

purchased the high weaning indexing South Devon Bull from Showboat Cattle Company in Winchester, Kansas in early 2015.

We need to retain one additional bull for our own use. We will select 3 bulls based upon their feed efficiency performance.

They will come into the ring together. The winning bidder will have first choice, we will retain the second choice for our own

use and then we will sell the third choice. Every bull born in 2014, that was not castrated, on our place except one, whos’ dam

is owned in partnership with Batterson Red Angus, will be offered for sale today. Buy with confidence.

Creston Livestock Auction offers both online and phone bidding. Please contact them to arrange either of those

options. Online viewing and bidding will be through www.cattleusa.com. Link to online bidding can also be found at

Red Angus EPD’s

HB ...... HerdBuilder Index – Need bulls for developing a profitable cowherd and maximizing the value of marketed progeny? Select a bull with a high HB value. GM ...... GridMaster Index – If you market all of your calf crop and want to increase the value of that calf crop, select a bull with a high GM value to maximize your profit. CED ..... Calving Ease Direct – Breeding Heifers? Select bulls witha high CED to increase the probability that the heifers will calve unassisted. BW...... Birth Weight – Predicts differences in birth weight. BW is included in the CED EPD, so simplify your decisions by selecting bulls based on CED instead of BW. WW ..... Weaning Weight and YW ....Yearling Weight – Predicts differences in weight at weaning and yearling. While selection based on these growth measures can increase your pay weight, be cautious what the bull’s other EPDs are. Milk .... Milk – Predicts differences in weaning weight of daughter’s progeny due to milk production. ME ...... Maintenance Energy – Selecting bulls with a lower ME EPD will decrease the amount of feed his daughters will require to maintain body weight. HPG..... Heifer Pregnancy – Retaining heifers? Select bulls with a high HPG to increase the percentage of exposures that result in a calving observation. CEM .... Calving Ease Maternal – Another number to pay attention to if you are retaining heifers. Selecting bulls with a high CEM will increase the probability of those daughters calving unassisted. STAY.... Stayability – The most important trait if your goal is developing cows that stay productive, thus increasing your profitability. Bulls that have a high Stay EPD are expected to sire daughters that remain productive in the herd until at least 6 years of age. MARB .. Marbling Score – Select bulls with high MARB EPD to increase the number of progeny that grade Choice or Prime. YG ...... Yield Grade – Marketing calves on a grid? Placing selection pressure on YG EPD will decrease the number of YG discounts on grid-marketed progeny. CW...... Carcasss Weight – Selecting bulls with a high CW EPD will increase the weight of the hanging carcass, which directly impacts revenue. REA ..... Rib Eye Area – Need to add muscle? Select bulls with a high REA EPD to increase rib eye area, which favorably increases Yield Grade. FAT ..... Backfat – Need to reduce waste in carcasses? Select bulls with a low FAT EPD to reduce backfat, which favorably increases Yield Grade.

Before our sale began two years ago she had put 4 bulls into our commercial herd. On our first sale we sold choice of her bull and another Hybrid bull and were our highest selling lot, and last year she raised the second high selling lot as well. Dumphy purchased that first bull to run with his Shorthorn cows and just loves the calves he has been throwing. The bulls out of this cow family are all massive, big footed and boned type of bulls that can go out and easily cover 40 cows a year in maturity, and remain in the herd for many years. Buy with confidence on this true pound bull for your commercial herd, as we have strongly used these genetics in our own herd for many years now with great success.

His dam was the first Red Angus female we had ever shown. She remained in the herd for a long time and was finally culled at 14 years of age. Super good footed, sound, big bodied individuals are the norm for this cow family, as well as being very fertile. His dam and her 4 daughters that are still in our herd only needed one straw to stick AI each year. The best thing about this cow family is their disposition. This Red Angus/Simmental bull will be an excellent Hybrid heifer bull prospect that still have plenty of growth potential and carcass merit to raise excellent replacement females and steers out of your first calf heifers. As one of the top performing bulls on test, this guy has a ton of potential.

Her very first bull calf was calf champion at Denver and Reserve Overall Bull in Ft. Worth before being sold to Wildcat Creek Red Angus in Kansas. Batton 4710 is a full sibling to that very same bull. As one of the most eye appealing bulls in the sale. Batton 4710 is dark red in color and almost perfect in his skeletal makeup. We have multiple embryo calves out of his dam currently on the ground and they will for sure be sale highlights in next year’s sale. This cow family is the perfect combination of eye appeal and real world functionality—this bull is no exception.

We never would have guessed he would have the performance that he has exhibited so far. Halfway through the test he is registering a staggering 6.68 lbs/day gain. Combine that with a negative BW and the ability to be used on heifers makes this guy a for sure sale highlight. His dam has been a proven herd sire producer for us for many years. We currently have 3 half sibs being used on our commercial cows, and 3 half sib females in our purebred herd. His sire is an up and coming herd bull for us. He is a maternal brother to Messmer Packer, the number one A.I. sire in the Red Angus breed in 2012. This heifer bull exhibits proven pedigree on real world performance.

His spread of BW to YW being both in the top 25% of the Red Angus breed coupled with breed leading carcass data makes him a commercial heifer bull dream. That is proven by his breed leading Herdbuilder and Gridmaster numbers and 68 lb actual BW. Within our program we try so hard to balance eye appeal with real world performance and McCallan is everything we represent. Two of the three females in our 2015 Reserve National Champion Pen of 3 females were sired by Brown Redemption. He is the highest gaining and most feed efficient purebred Red Angus heifer bull in the sale for the first half of the test! For almost a May bull to be gaining 5.37 pounds per day and have the breed leading numbers that he does this guy is big time good. Very few bull offer those kind of EPD’s and have such a powerful pedigree to back them up. He is one of just a few Brown Premier sons that we will be offering. Do not overlook this guy just because is younger.

Last year the 743 x Lighting McQueen bull was one of our sale highlights due to his performance at test and Hirsch will overtake that one the way he is performing at Werner’s. He is a big footed, super soggy bull that is well dispositioned. This guy is a true cow bull that will go out and sire fast growing stocky calves that are what feedyards want. Lightning McQueen is used by us on any cow we know can raise pound bulls and really hit his mark here. Cattle are still sold by the pound and this guy will get the job done.

What more do we have to say other than this is the lowest BW purebred Red Angus heifer bull we have to offer?! A moderate framed bull we expect him to work well on heifers to help take the worry out of calving. His sire RMS Tornado was used in our purebred herd for several years before being moved to our commercial herd. His sons are easy keeping, moderate framed and easy calving. As a younger bull 4105 is just starting to hit his growth spurt, but by sale date he will definitely be one to look up if you are looking for a calving ease specialist.

Old Crow is another very complete bull sired by our herd bull Southwest. His sire Southwest is a maternal brother to Messmer Packer who was the breed leading AI sire in both 2011 and 2012. These are known proven genetics that work both in the commercial and seedstock industries. This guy is a structurally correct easy keeping bull that should work well on both cows and heifers.

Each of this bulls sired by him are sound, structurally correct, and will all make excellent heifer bulls. Red Stag is one of the best calves in this sire group from a phenotypic, numbers, and performance perspective! Combining some of the best carcass data on the sale with a -2.5 BW and 97 YW makes him one of the best calving ease prospects we have available. Red Stag has the growth and sexual maturity to run with cows in the Spring and then go clean up your AI’ed replacement heifers no sweat. His dam offers fertility and longevity all while being one of the most powerful cows in our herd. One of the best bulls from an all-around standpoint.

And while that is more than likely true we believe that Chevas Regal is a bull to change that viewpoint. Sired by the $180,000 Redemption this bull offers breed leading EPD’s in almost every category! His spread from BW to YW is one of biggest we have ever offered, and combine that with Herdbuilder, Gridmaster, and carcass data that are in the top% of the breed makes this guy a must see for both a cow and heifer prospect! His dam is sired by no other then the legendary Red Fine Line Mulberry bull making him a combination of two breed legends. Phenotypically this guy is hard to fault. He is moderate in his frame but still possesses a huge top, outstanding testicular development, and eye appeal. He is sound moving and is one of the best dispositioned bulls in the group. Lastly you look at his growth he is one of the best in the sale. One of the heaviest bulls offered that is still gaining we are excited to see what he will look like on sale day. As a big time heifer bull prospect he has a huge spread from BW to YW. Through the first half of the test he has performed extremely well. His dam is out of PIE Code Red. They are extremely maternal females within our herd and are highly sought out win in the breed. U2 Mission is a new sire coming out of Canada. His first group of calves has been very exciting and successful. So much that only 100 units of semen will be sold in the US in 2015. We were fortunate to use this bull early in his career and offer of individuals like Ballentine. Look him up on sale day. He will not disappoint.

His dam is known as one of the most powerful females in the Red Angus breed. She is unrivaled in muscle, capacity, and dimension. We used his sire, Pacific Pride, in our purebred herd to dramatically increase the growth, performance and carcass merit of our calves. We did not see any attributable calving problems. For use in cows we expect Woodford to be no exception. Woodford is out of our embryo transplant program and was raised by a recipient cow that did not milk the best, but as you can see he is taking off on test. Cattle will always be sold by the pound and Woodford offers breed leading values to make his new owner profit in every calf crop he sires.

As stated above this is an incredibly powerful cow family to be buying into. We guarantee you will see impeccable bone, foot size, and muscling development the moment the calves hit the ground. If you are looking to purchase a bull to put pounds on your calves we recommend looking heavily into Ridgemont. He is a late fall bull and is a little older and more mature and should be able to cover more cows that a younger yearling bull. If you are looking to add pounds to you herd highly consider him.

Calving Ease Deluxe Bulls The beef industry is changing. With the current market the way it is and the push for bigger cow herds managed by fewer individuals, calving ease has become one of the biggest priorities in the seedstock industries. No one, including ourselves, has time to deal with calving problems. This is especially true with our first calf heifers. When you look through our catalog we made it pertinent to point out every heifer bull we had available. Eight years ago, for fun, we purchased a Longhorn cow at the Creston Livestock Auction. Since then she has turned out to be one of the steadiest producing cows on the farm. She breeds early each year, is easy keeping, and very docile. We use “Petunia” as she is called to help move cows as she will follow a bucket of grain anywhere. When bred to a Red Angus bull she will have a solid red calf. When bred to a Crossbred bull she will have a spotted calf. Her calves have been sent to the feedlot every year and grown and graded just as well as most of our other commercial steers. Because of the emphasis on calving ease we decided to keep two bull calves out of that cow family and offer them for sale. They are definitely not the biggest framed and most eye appealing bulls we are offering, but they will calve easy. Though a very small part of our operation (2 cows) we have never had to assist one of our Longhorns calving or treat one for being sick. They are tough. These bulls will not add pounds to your calf crop. They will calve easy and last time we checked live calves are still worth more than dead ones. If a producer is truly looking for a calving ease deluxe bull to throw out with his open replacement heifers to never have to worry about sickness or calving problems these would be very viable options.

Commercial Open Replacements

Once again we will be offering up 75 head of commercial open replacements from the heart of our crossbred herd. These heifers represent the best and most uniform set of females we have ever had. They are approximately ¾ Red Angus and ¼ Simmental. A few will have a small amount of South Devon breeding as well. In 2014 we have approximately 150 spring female commercial calves. The youngest (May calves) were sold in Novemeber. Since October 105 of these females have been “backgrounding” at our farm in Tecumseh, NE. We selected 30 of these females for our own replacements and the rest make up this offering. They are on a complete vaccination program and will only need a Lepto-Vibrio shot prior to breeding. As an added bonus for each head sold we will give the buyer one straw of our heifer bull Brown Paramount Z1706. We purchased this bull in 2013 as a way to bring in total outcross pedigree to our commercial herd that would work on our replacement heifers to elevate their genetic potential. This bull is sired by Brown Paramount who is a legendary Nebula P707 (Sire of Brown Redemption and Premier) son. We are very excited about the fall calves out of him that are on the ground now, as well as the many we have coming this Spring. Semen is ready to go. Please grab one of us following the sale and we can make arrangements to get it to you. As something new this year we will be offering up 40 first calf heifers in a partnership with Tom Frey of Creston Livestock Auction. Last year a large majority of these females were purchased by the Kerrigan Brothers on this very same sale as open replacements. They took our free straws on Brown Paramount Z1706 that came with the females and AI’ed them all for late March calves. These AI safe females were then sold this Fall in Creston making all of the Karrigan’s investment back and then some in the process. Tom Frey purchased these females to sell specifically on this sale. This is really exciting to us to see the success of our customers with our genetic s and to help them market them. We also want to continue to expand on this opportunity. Please contact us if you ever have any Shuey raised genetics that you are looking to market. We may have a spot on this very sale for them. If not we currently have the 2nd most “liked” Red Angus Facebook page in the world and a newly developed website (www.shueystockfarms.com) to help with getting the most out of your investment in our genetics.
