Disappointing was the turn up at the Annual Meeting of our Patrol Members and Com- petitors, besides Life Members and 4 others we only had 2 members that patrol and no competitors at all. But no doubt when we set comp fees and costs involved with com- peting we will get the usual hard luck story's, or we will see them when they turn up to a meeting wanting reduced patrol hours or for hand outs for competition equipment ( these are Micks comments only, as I write the news letter and I can!!! ) Pictured from left, John Howson our new Treasurer, James Brown our inspirering President, and Bren- dan Shepherd our departing Treasurer.

Our Annual General Meeting was held on the 26th August with the president and sec-

retary elected for another term, while after 16 years as treasurer Brendan Shepherd has

stepped aside to take on his new venture as President of the Sale Swimming Club.

James thanked Brendan for his many years of service which has gained him a Life

Membership and many life long friends, Brendan wont be lost to the Club as he is

staying around to keep an eye on the New Building Finances until the project is on the

way or completed. James took the opportunity to welcome our new Treasurer being

John Howson who has been involved in the club as a parent (Steph) and is also a part

of the finance industry in Sale, no dought you would have seen him, as he is a frequent

visitor with his family to the Sand Bar over the summer months. David Whelan also

stepped aside from his position as Training and assessment Officer (Chief Instructor)

as his work commitments have increased, he is staying on as the District Supervisor so

he wont be lost to us but whoever takes on his old position has big shoe’s to fill. James

thanked David at the last Committee Meeting for his time and effort.

On the following page is a full list of the Members that have put their hands up for a

position as a Director or on the Committee to work on keeping our club moving for-

ward, you will see that there is a couple of vacant positions, if you would like to have a

go and join a hardworking dedicated team contact James or Sue-Ellen for more details.

The word is at the time of printing of this newsletter discussions and contractual talks

were taking place with a couple of candidates to take on the secretary's position so

Sue—Ellen could take on the Position of Training and Assessment Officer (Chief In-

structor)? This will be reported in the next Newsletter.

Disappointing was the turn up at the Annual Meeting of our Patrol Members and Com-

petitors, besides Life Members and 4 others we only had 2 members that patrol and no

competitors at all. But no doubt when we set comp fees and costs involved with com-

peting we will get the usual hard luck story's, or we will see them when they turn up to

MEMBERS NEWS

23/08/2012—13/08/2012 Archie Morgan

All our thoughts are with Brendan, Meagan, Rusty, John, Sue, David, Rebecca and Families for

the sudden loss of Archie, it was good to see a large presence, of present and past members at

Archie's farewell.

Story behind the Picture of Archie, is Archie phoning Nathan Buckley as Collingwood was los-

ing this day, and it so happens, Collingwood did come back and win.

Congratulations to Neil and Emma on their engagement, Neil popped the question

while in America coaching the Victorian Surf Lifesaving Team at the Wieland Shield,

report next page.

Anyone that was present when Rod Centra made the statement

that he would kiss his bottom if the water reached the boat sheds,

had the last laugh

Steph & Courtney Dyer and friend Grace Connelly look like

they tried to get a life time supply of shoes on a recent trip to

Bali ?

Congratulations also go to Warren and Yelena

on their recent engagement, well done from

all of us

Late News : Congratulations also to Stuart and Renae Mawley

for the news that there will be a little Mawley arriving around

March next year, well done.

WIELAND SHIELD REPORT

Neil and Emma have just returned from their trip to America with the Victorian Surf Life Saving Team which Neil was coach of.

They both said it was an awesome trip and would recommend it to anyone that would endeavour to make the Victorian Team

that travels to America every 4 years for this competition. They toured all over California including San Diego, Hermosa, Las

Vegas, New Port, Santa Monica, Manhattan, San Clemente, Hollywood, and all over LA.

Some of Neil's personal results in the lead up events were :

San Clemente Ocean Festival—Won the (30 and over) Biathlon (1 km swim and 5km run), 3rd in the open 5km board race.

Californian State Regionals at Newport—Won the (30 and over) board race, Second (30 and over) Ironman

In the Wieland Shield Competition the Victorian Team lost by 8 points. Neil said they led all the way till the last 4 events, when

the Americans produced former Olympic swimmers and female Kayakers that just missed selection for their Olympic team, so

they just pipped us at the post, but a great experience was had by all.

REMEMBER

Just remember when you turn 18yrs old, you must get your working with children's accreditation so you

can patrol and help with programs and around the club
