Benjamin Yudin, Rabbi Andrew Markowitz, Associate Rabbi Shomrei Torah Parshat Vaetchanan—Shabbat Nachamu 16 Av, 5778 / July 28, 2018 HAKARAT HaTOV Baal Kriah Upstairs - Gideon Bannett; Baal Kriah Downstairs - Avi Geller Kiddush Upstairs is sponsored by Evi and Michael Dworkis and Rose and Ron Dworkis on the birth of their daughter/granddaughter; The Ulrich family in memory of Allys grandfathers, Mayer Kanner and Bernard Levy ז''ל; The Krich family in memory of the second yahrzeit of Rachel s grandfather, Clyde Fox- Schmuel ben Shaul ז''ל; The Cohen family in memory of the eighth yahrzeit of Carol s father, Victor Mimon- Victorio ben Nesriya ז''ל. Youth Minyan Kiddush is sponsored by the Kutin Family, in honor of Ed s birthday and Bar Mitzvah parsha, and in honor of the wedding anniversary of Ed and Neshama Kutin. PACHIM KETANIM FROM RABBI YUDIN: In Honor of Parshat Vaetchanan and Shabbat Nachamu Once again Parshas Vaeschanan comes after Tisha b'Av in keeping with the S.A.O.C. (428:4) which teaches, "tzomu v'tzlu" - fast and pray, meaning, after we fast on Tisha b'Av read in the Torah about the prayer of Moshe. What might be the connection? On Tisha b'Av starting after Eicha until Mincha, we omit Tiskabel in the Kaddish. This is because Tiskabel is a petition to accept our prayers, and in Eicha (3:8) we read sa-sam tefilasi - He blocked my prayers. The nechama - consola- tion - of this Shabbos says the Satmar Rebbe zt"l, is as the Navi teaches, "dabru al lev Yerushalayim" - speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and our Rabbis teach that heart refers to prayer which emanates from the heart. One interesting question: When we pray the same thing three times a day to Hashem, are we not being a nudnik - pest? The Mabit in his Beis Elokim says no! Constant repetition to Hashem is a way of saying we have no other address for our prayers and supplica- tions but You. Hence, sincere prayers are the biggest compliment to Him. NURSERY SCHOOL NEWS

This week the children had fun with their favorite animals. They enjoyed a visit from the Tenafly Nature Center and came right up close to a real snake and a hundred year old turtle! Some of the children actually petted them too! Moreh Yoni also brought in some crawling creatures from his own backyard for the children to observe. They created beautiful art work of sea urchins in the water and helped Yoni draw and color a variety of animals on the big writing pad. The older children played a fun game of "Guess Which Animal I Am" and the younger children cut out shapes of sea creatures which they placed in water that they painted blue. We had a fun pajama breakfast with our stuffed animals and delicious pancakes and syrup! Michael came to do sports and we even had a special visit from Dr. Jason Lizzack who showed us how to care for our teeth. We were so happy to welcome Rabbi Yudin back from Israel at our Shabbat Party! Shabbat Shalom!
