O U R M I S S I O N :The Shenandoah RC&D Council is a non-profit, locally-directed program that promotes economic growth and environmental quality. RC&D programs strive to have an impact on resource issues by bringing together individual efforts to address larger regional concerns. The Shenandoah RC&D Council sets area goals and objectives, and brings together partners, technical assistance, and financial resources to complete grassroots projects that help us meet these goals.

Did you know goats are doing “biological control” of invasive species at the Frontier Culture Museum? The goats are happy to eat non-native plants such as Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, Multi-flora Rose, and Bittersweet. In fact, they prefer it over grass. These happy goats reclaim the pastures and help restore ecological balance - win/win!
An important, ongoing project at Shenandoah RC&D is “Flex Fencing.” We help farmers install fencing that prevents livestock from entering and polluting streams. We also assist by providing alternative watering systems for their animals. Farmers benefit because ani-mals are less likely to spread sickness. Animals benefit because they have easier access to water. We all benefit from clean water.
W H AT I S R C & D ? RC&D is a nationwide U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The purpose of the Shenandoah RC&D program is to improve the quality of life achieved through natural resources conservation and community development. We’re working to build sustainable communities and smart development, all while managing and conserving natural resources.
