Greetings Everyone,Spring is finally here and we’d like to invite you to our Spring Pick of the Pen bull and replacement female sale in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.

These sale lots are the result of 35 years of using practical, performance-oriented, profitable and predictable genetics. These cattle work for us and we’re sure they’ll work equally well for you.

The bulls are raised on a forage-based diet and are summered in the hilliest, rockiest fescue pastures so they should travel with ease to breed cows. They’ll work well in purebred or Angus-based herds to increase weaning weights and produce those F1 Sim-Angus females so popular today.

The females are flashy, moderate-frame, easy-fleshing and wide-hipped with tremendous capacity and performance ability. Many of these females are donor quality and should perform exceptionally well in the club calf world to produce those Simmental-cross calves so high in demand, and all should make exceptional brood cows. Most of the bred heifers should calve by sale date. These are definitely “The Keepin’ Kind” and are extremely hard to part with.

The embryos are from our best donors who’ve proven themselves top performers time and time again. In the show ring or the pasture, progeny from these matings should be winners. Also, semen from Keep Dreamin’ will be available for private sale on sale day. Bring your tank to take advantage of these genetics.

Herd Health: All cattle will have proper health certificates for immediate interstate shipment. The bred females have been pregnancy examined and are confirmed safe. All bulls have passed a breeding soundness examination. Each animal will be at the purchaser’s risk immediately after it is sold. Shenandoah Valley Simmentals is reserving 50% semen interest on a few select bulls. These bulls, if collected, will be collected at the seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience. The buyer has 100% natural possession and 100% salvage value. An updated data sheet containing calving information and additional bull data will be available sale day. All scrotal circumferences listed in catalog are on a yearling basis.

“Pick of the Pen” Protocol: It’s easy! Typically, cattle are grouped in pens with multiple head per pen. The cattle remain in these pens throughout the sale until load-out. The auction will be held in a barn. The cattle won’t be brought into a sale ring. Study the cattle and make multiple selections before the sale begins. There won’t be time during the sale to view the cattle again. Each pen is assigned a very conservative opening bid. Cattle are auctioned one pen at a time. To start bidding, someone must offer the opening bid and then we auction to the highest bidder. The highest bidder then selects which animal they desire at that winning price. The bidding then starts over at the opening bid and continues until the pen is empty or no one offers the opening bid on the remaining animal(s). If unsold animals are left in a pen, we “Pass the Pen”. Any animals in a Passed Pen are available for purchase at the opening bid price on a first come, first serve basis at the settlement table until the end of the day. Animals will not be sold below their opening bid price.

Midnight Joker is a long-sided Black Joker son with balanced EPDs that should put ample pounds on calves and produce sound replacement females. Joker-influenced females are hard to beat as brood cows. Use him on purebred or commercial cows.

Marksman displays length in a smooth muscle pattern and excels in milking ability and carcass merit. He should work great on a set of commercial cows to produce hybrid vigor.
