Shape Unlimited Impact Trainee (12 month, paid, full time role)
Recruitment Pack
Registered Charity No. 279184
Dear Applicant, Thank you for your request for information about our Unlimited Impact Traineeship. Please note that this is a paid role which will run for 12 months on a full time (5 day a week basis). About Shape:
For 40 years, Shape has pioneered the active involvement of disabled people in the arts and creative industries as audience members, artists, employees and participants.
Our mission is to promote great art and inclusive practices, knowledge and learning, to ensure that disabled people have active and influential roles in arts and culture - as leaders, artists, participants and audiences, and as part of a skilled workforce.
About Unlimited Impact Unlimited Impact is supported by Spirit of 2012 and is a new extension of Unlimited; the £2 million, three-year programme delivered by Shape, and arts producing organisation, Artsadmin, and funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Creative Scotland. Unlimited Impact focuses on developing and inspiring the next generation of young disabled people passionate about making change through the arts; extending Unlimited’s reach by supporting venues across the country to successfully programme ambitious and high quality work by disabled artists; and deepening discussion and debate around work by disabled artists. Apart from offering a challenging and stimulating role in a professional and creative environment, Shape and Unlimited Impact are committed to ensuring that all staff receive high quality professional development whilst in our employment. In particular, we aim to support disabled people into employment in the arts. Shape recognises that many disabled people have been excluded from education and training opportunities compared to non-disabled people. This is particularly true within the arts and creative industries. This promises to be a highly rewarding opportunity for the right candidate. If you feel that you have the skills and experience that we are looking for, I would be delighted to receive your application. Yours sincerely, Tony Heaton OBE, Shape Chief Executive

Applicant Criteria Due to Shape’s commitment to increasing diversity within the Cultural Sector and supporting disabled people into employment in the arts, this role is only open to disabled applicants. This is as permitted by the Equality Act 2010. This is a paid traineeship for a disabled person which is supported through the Unlimited Impact Programme, funded by Spirit of 2012.
What happens after I return the forms? We will consider the applications on the grounds of individual merit, and if you are successful we will contact you shortly afterwards to arrange an interview. This opportunity is ring-fenced for a disabled applicant who meets the criteria of the job description. Any disclosure of disability is at the applicant’s discretion and will remain confidential. Please note that this does not oblige you to disclose any health or medical related information.
Note on disability Shape uses an inclusive definition of disability, based on the Social Model of Disability, which, by focusing on the disabling barriers imposed by society, embraces all physical, sensory and invisible impairments, learning disability, mental health and fatigue conditions.
Because we recognise that people’s perspectives and experience of disability are very wide ranging, we have a broad and inclusive approach to what disability means. Some people will meet with access barriers on a daily basis; others may have a mental or physical impairment or health condition which is invisible to others or which they prefer to keep to themselves; some people may not even have considered themselves to be disabled until something has happened to make them reflect on the issue. Please note that the returned form will be used strictly for monitoring purposes and will not affect your application in any way. We will try to respond to all applicants within 3 working days to acknowledge receipt of your application. If you have not heard from us after that time please email [email protected] If you have not heard from us by Friday 6th May, please treat this that you have not been successful in your application on this occasion: if there is a high volume of applicants, requests for feedback may not be possible unless you have attended interview. Deadline for applications to be returned: 12 Noon, Monday April 25th Interviews: 11th May 2016
