Shadow Badminton

This is to practice the correct movement and technique without actually hitting a shuttle. Get a

partner to help direct you to the areas of the court, making sure that you cover the backcourt, midcourt, and the frontcourt with both your forehand and backhand.

Commit fully during this practice as you would in any competition. Imagine that you are playing

against a world class player. It will definitely improve your movement on court and fitness.

Wall Rally Drill

Take an old shuttle and hit it against the wall. Hit the shuttle with your forehand and backhand,

straight or diagonal. It can be used for practicing almost every stroke. It is a good way to

improve footwork, strengthen the arm and wrist muscles used in badminton.

The wall should be at least ! feet high to accommodate clears. The practice will be more

effective if you can show the height of the net with a chalk line or a string, " feet above theground.

#s the shuttle rebounds so fast from the wall, your wrist will naturally come into play. $ou will

learn how to switch grips at an instance as well. $ou will be ama%ed on your improved refle&esthe ne&t time you step on court.

Hitting a shuttle against a wall is an effective practice at all levels of plays.

Multiple Shuttles - Overhead Strokes

The more shuttles you have, the better for this routine. The feeder plays the shuttles into different

areas of your backcourt. $ou will then use your forehand, backhand or around the head to play

the clears, drop shots or smashes. 'eturn to your base position after each shot.

This badminton drill is meant to improve your speed and accuracy in e&ecuting overhead strokes.

$ou have to remember that merely reaching the shuttles is not enough. You have to play quality

shots to the other side.

Multiple shuttles - Net lay

#gain, you will need a lot of shuttles for this routine. The feeder throws the shuttles to your net

area. $ou will then decide whether to play a net shot, a net kill or a net lift with your forehand or backhand. 'eturn to your base position after each shot.

This badminton drill is meant to improve your net play and your movement on court. The qualityof your return is important. (ay attention to it or this practice will not be effective.

more accurate shots with all strokes as well. It is fun to play and effective in improving your

game.

%in$ o" the #ourt

This game is useful when you are with a lot of players. It is en)oyable and can improve your

overall game. It is played with the normal rules and regulation. $ou can set the winning

condition, normally whoever reaches * points first wins.

The winner will stay in the court as king while another player will take him on. The king will

stay on until he looses. The eventual winner of that duel will then switch to the other side of thecourt becoming king.

played on a singles court and is great for improving fitness, speed around the court, footwork and

shot accuracy.

The two players on one side of the court must assume a front back position and play as they

would in a singles match. $ou will then be able to play in a very tough and pressured condition,

enabling you to raise your game.

Clear to yourpartner bac and forth without moving outside of an imaginary bo! around your feet of " distance(ie # feetaround you). $his drill is good for accuracy to maintain a straight line.

Drill 1.1 (Clearing Corner to Corner)

Start with Drill %. Player %(position a) hits to Player #(position aa). Player % immediately moves to positionc before Player # gets the bird. Player # hits the bird to position c& and then immediately moves to positioncc. Player % after getting to position c will hit the bird to position cc. Player # arrives to cc in time to hit thebird bac to Player % at position c. Players continue to hit bac and forth between c and cc& then continutethe routine bac to a and aa. $his drill is good for speed between corners while doing clears and crosscourt clears.

Drill 1.1.1 (Clearing Corner to Cornerno rest)

In continuation with Drill %.%& players go from corner to corner with their clears and cross court clears withvery little time between staying at the respective corners. $he players hit to the opposite corner that thebird came to them. I'& If Player % had the bird hit to them at corner a from corner aa& then they will hit thebird to corner cc. Player # will then run over to corner cc and hit the bird to corner c. $he bird then will behit to corner aa& then to a& then to cc then to c. Players can then reverse the drill so that the bird comesfrom opposite rotation.

Drill !.0 (Ho"er Drill)

Player % starts at the baseline (position a)& while Player # starts at the net (position dd). Player %continuely drops to Player # while Player # lift returns to the baseline. Player # can lift along the baselineanywhere (across to position c) if space permits& and Player % always drops to Player # at the same spot(position dd)

Drill !.1 (U# and bac$ %ith Ho"er)

Player % now moves between the baseline and net (positions a and d) dropping the bird to Player # inposition dd. Seuence Player # needs to lift to the baseline& Player % drops to position dd& Player # doesa net drop to position d& Player % moves into the net to position d and drop returns bac to Player #&Player # then lifts again to the baseline.

Drill !.1.1 (Li&tDro#Dro#)

Player % and Player # now both move between the net and the baseline. Seuence Player % at baselinedrops to Player # at net& Player # drop returns& Player % comes into the net and lifts the bird to thebaseline (then stays at the net and hovers) forcing Player # to go bac to baseline& Player # drops fromthe baseline to Player % at the net& Player % drop returns and then heads bac to the baseline while Player # comes bac into the net to lift.

Players line up at position 1& and one player at each 5& 2&C& and D. +ull doubles lineson court are used. Individual game& no partners. $he player 4ust coming onto courtserves first& and can serve to either side. 'ach player owns their own half court& and do

not have to hit any birds on the players court beside them. 7ally ensues& and the player that misses their shot goes off to the end of line. $he new player taes the vacant spotwherever that may be.

ame 1.1 (,noc$ot %ith ! mista$es)

Players get two lives. 8nce a player gets two mistaes& they go to the end of the line.

ame 1.! (,noc$ot %ith Re&resh)

7emaining players can refresh their lives bac to 9ero when a player gets noced out. 5ll players therefore start eual when a new player taes the vacant spot.

ame 1.' (,noc$ot ,ings cort)

'ntry spot is always C- rotation is from C to D to 2 to 5. C always serves& and can serveto either side. If 2 is noced out& then D fills 2 spot& C fills D spot& and the new playerfrom 1 goes to C. 5ll players wor towards getting to 5.

ame 1.2 (,noc$ot %ith o ,ill)

It is possible for a player on one side to purposely lift a bird up for the opposing side tosmash the bird down and tae someone out. (ie Player 2 lifts a nice lob to Player D tosmash and tae out Player 5 in the 3ings spot.) $he :o 3ill rule taes this possibility

out. 5ll finishing smashes(ie front court& that are not coming bac) must be conductedon the player who set up,lifted the shot initially. $his eliminates cheap shots. $he penaltyfor doing such a shot is that the player who does the finishing shot on the wrong personis noced out& instead of the intended receiver or the player who lifted the initial shot.

ame 1.3 (,noc$ot ,ings Cort ' cort rotation)

Start all / courts with their individual respective 3nocout 3ings Court games. Positions 5& '& and I are the 3ings Spot& with respective rotations (Court % C to D to 2 to 5)&(Court # ; to < to + to ')& (Court / 3 to L to = to I). Court % itself& is the most desirablecourt(3ing Court)& then Court #& and Court / is the least desirable court to play on. $ime

about #*/ minutes (or time randomly)& and call S>I$C<. Players upon hearing this willstill finish off their rally. 8nce this is called& then players will switch as follows. Players 5and 2 stay on Court % as is. Player C switches with '& D with +& ; with I& < with =.Players in spots 3 and L stay as is. Players moving downward from court % to # or from# to / are getting demoted& while players going in the reverse direction are gettingpromoted. If more than %# players& then use spots 1& :& and 8 as the lineup spots foreach respective court& and demote the bottom players on each court. Players in spotsD& <& and L would therefore also stay in their respective suares if a S>I$C< wascalled (ie 1 switches with '& and + switches with C& and 5& 2& and D stay as is).

ame !.0 (Hal&cort singles)

'ach player taes a half*court and plays half*court singles with opposing player. >hencoach yells S>I$C<& then players can move up or down depending on directiondetermined by the coach. (ie If court % is the highest& and court / is the lowest& thenwinning players move left and losers move to the right direction(side does not matter). If more than %# players& can use 1&:& and 8 as sub areas)

$hree or four players each tae a half*court. Service can be to either side& and palyers taes ownership for only their side. >hen a mistae is made& then that player taes apoint. +irst player to acuire seven points loses. $he player who too the point& thenserves the ne!t rally. $his is also good # on % for / players(can use full court for the loneplayer on one side).
