• 5.4. The ASD(HA), under the USD(P&R) shall establish guidance designed to:

Personnel able to perform sexual assault forensic examinations:• Licensed physicians with clinical privileges in emergency medicine, family

practice, internal medicine, obstetrics/ gynecology, urology, general medical officer, undersea medical officer, flight surgeon, and/or those privileged to perform pelvic examinations

• Licensed advanced practice registered nurses with clinical privileges in adult health, family health, midwifery, women’s health, and/or privileged to perform pelvic examinations

• Licensed physician assistants with clinical privileges in adult, family, women’s health and/or privileged to perform pelvic examinations

• Licensed registered nurses who meet requirements for perform a SAFE as determined by the local privileging authority. (Capability is noted as a competency, not as a privilege)

• During contingency situations and when authorized by local privileging authority, licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel such as registered nurses, independent duty corpsman, medic, or technician

– Medical Treatment– Forensic Examination– Advocacy Services– Counseling Assistance

• The Senior Commander is notified within 24 hours of non-identifying personal information

Maria Lauterbach’s mother says Corps failed to protect her daughter

…Lauterbach had filed a claim in May that Laurean had sexually assaulted her the month before. Turner sent a letter to a Marine commander questioning the investigation into that incident.

"Further, the death of Maria Lauterbach shows that the Marines internal procedures need to be reviewed," he wrote. "For Maria and other women serving, we must determine what should have been done to protect her and her unborn child."

His letter included a long list of questions "on behalf of the family" about how the rape allegations were handled, why Laurean's DNA was never taken and why, when Lauterbach went missing, did no one question Laurean…
