Setting Up Your Google Account For Live Video and Hangout on Air Streaming In order to get started streaming live video using YouTube or Google Hangouts on Air, you (the producer) will need to create a Google account. This tutorial assumes you have never setup a Google account and will walk you through that setup, as well as configuring your account to allow for live streaming. To get started, go to google.com and click on the Sign In button in the upper right hand corner, then click Create an account. This next page will allow you to enter your name, choose a username, create a password, and other important details they will need to create your account. Fill in your details, agree to their terms of service, and then hit Next Step.

With your Google account created and now that you are logged in, you can begin to create a Google+ profile.

Hit Create your profile, and you will be welcomed to Google. Hit Continue to Google+. From here, you can upload a profile photo, search for people you know to add to your ‘circles’, and find organizations, groups, and companies you would like to follow. Once you walk through their startup wizard, you will be placed in Google+.

Use the menu that appears when you hover your mouse along the left hand side to click on Hangouts.

You will be placed on the Hangouts page. Click on the Start a Hangout On Air. A small popup will appear allowing you to give the hangout a title, description, schedule a time, and invite participants. This is the same way you would initiate a Google Hangouts On Air in the future, but for now fill in the for with whatever you wish and hit Share. You will be then asked to verify your account in order to allow for an HOA to be setup.

Click on Click Here. You will now be directed out to YouTube. Keep in mind that Google Hangouts on Air and YouTube are like brother and sister, tied at the hip. Any HOA you put on will automatically be uploaded to your YouTube channel so the rest of your account preparation will occur over on YouTube.

Click OK on the Use YouTube as popup. You will now be asked to verify your account.

Once you have verified your account, you will receive a confirmation screen. On your settings page for your channel (in the Creators Studio) you will see the current status of your YouTube account.

Under Features, use the Enable button for Live events. You will be asked to agree to their terms of service.

You will again see a confirmation that your changes were successful.

Your Google account is now fully ready for you to officially schedule Google Hangouts on Air and YouTube Live Events as you wish. This process only has to be done once and once it is set, it is set.
