Common Challenging Behaviors
Talking a lot/dominating Speaking very little/quiet/shy Challenging whatever is offered/arguing with others Disrupting the group in a variety of different ways Expressing their opinion or seeming to “know it all” about every topic Complaining constantly Trying to advise or fix everyone Going off on tangents, down rabbit holes, unfocused Talking with a person next to them while someone else is speaking/”sidebar” Bragging excessively and continuously about accomplishments

Managing Difficult Group Dynamics
Start with a broad request Remind them of group guidelines Begin to focus your request more specifically if necessary Make a specific request of a group member
- Acknowledge their input and contribution Consider making a request outside the group Avoid escalation of the situation
- Reflect- Avoid telling them how to feel or be
