Serving with Faith and Love
7th July 2016
Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Namaste, Bula, Malo ni, Makadini, Annyoung, Witamy, Welcome,
Sometime we are so busy in our everyday lives that we forget about the little things in life. The sunrise at the start
of a brand new day, the sound of the birds waking up, the warmth of our children’s love around us, the laughter of
our family and friends. All of these precious gifts we are given by our Lord and sometimes we just forget to say
thank you.
The holidays are starting at the end of this week and I wish everyone a safe and blessed time and may we pause for a
while and remember in our hearts the love that our God has for us.
Dear Lord,
May I find JOY in the morning sunshine, Your Love in all things around me.
May I find Your PEACE in the quiet of the evening as Your gentle blessings surround me.
Lord, you know how busy I must be this day,
If I forget You, please do not forget me.
Amen.
By Sir Jacob Astley
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
What a fabulous response to our interviews.
To the parents who came – Thank you
To the children who were so well prepared – Thank you
To the fabulous teachers who have been teaching your children – Thank you.
For parents in Room 6 we shall be having catch-up interview times at the beginning of Term 3 and if there are any
other parents that would still like to see their child’s teacher we will organise times for those parents as well.
PREFERENCE FORMS
The school is in the middle of doing an audit for the Catholic School Office and are going through all preference
forms. We have found quite a number of incomplete forms, and a few missing copies of Baptism Certificates. Each
form has to be signed by your Parish priest, some have not been signed. If you are unsure if your form is complete,
can you please contact the office so we can resolve this as soon as possible.
SCHOLASTICS BOOK FAIR
Thank you to all the parents who have bought books for their children. This is a great support for you children’s
learning and emphasises the importance of print. A great fundraiser as well. I know all the children will be busy
these holidays reading their new books.
WINTER UNIFORM
We are definitely in the throngs of winter and I ask that all students come to school in their winter uniforms. We
have been noticing that some children have decided not to wear correct school uniform and are coming to school in
different attire. The school jumpers are really warm as well as the school jackets. If the excuse is, ‘I lost it’, they
need to ‘look’ for it before they decide to wear something else. We have a lot of ‘lost property’ in our office that
they should be looking through first. Please ensure that your child is dressed correctly for school every day.
MATARIKI CELEBRATIONS
A huge congratulation to our senior students under the guidance of Mrs Avia on a fabulous performance in the Grey
Lynn library last Friday. Grey Lynn school also put on a great performance and both schools went away with songs
on their minds.
INCREDIBLE YEARS PROGRAMME
The Parish have decided to restart this programme in the beginning of Term 3, Tuesday 26th
July. The Incredible Years parenting programme acknowledge that parenting is one of the
most important jobs adults can do. The programme aims to encourage positive family
relationships.
It provides:
Practical step by step suggestions for parents of children to help handle everyday
family situations.
An encouraging and supportive learning environment.
Strategies to help parents manage challenging behaviours.
Child-minding while you attend class.
Light meal shared from 5.30pm.
It is a world-recognised programme that supports and celebrates the work of parents. They have two female
facilitators who are passionate about raising children to be good citizens. The course is 2.5hrs per week and you will
receive a certificate after completion. I encourage all parents to put aside these 2.5 hrs a week for the benefit of
their children.
END OF TERM SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
School Assembly will be at 2.00pm on Friday 08th July, in Room 5. Please feel free to come along.
PTA
Thank you to Paula who ran our first meeting with the PTA. What a great start with great enthusiasm. We already
have a lot of ideas for fundraising and help for around the school. Please see the attached newsletter.
DENTAL VAN
The dental van will be visiting our school on Monday 1st August. During this time, they would like to examine, and do
any required treatment for your child. They cannot do any treatment, without your agreement, so could you please
return any forms that the therapist gives to your children. They will be very happy to discuss any treatments that
they recommend with you. If you have any preschool children they would like to see them also, please call into the
van before school or after school with them. The van phone number is 021 413 435. You could phone them, call into
the van or write a note.
HEARING AND VISION TESTING
The Auckland District Health Board has advised us that they will be at our school in Term 3. There is no need to plan
for this but if you would specifically like your child to be tested can you please inform the office.
OLYMPIC DAY CELEBRATIONS – CHANGE OF DATE!
TERM 3, WEEK 2
The weather was not kind to us last week so we have postponed our celebration until next
term. An update will go out at the beginning of Term 3.
NETBALL – Three Kings Netball Association
There will be NO Saturday netball games during the school holidays.
HEAD LICE
We have another outbreak of ‘Head Lice’. Please be vigilant and check your child’s hair. Lice and nits love any sort
of hair, whether it is clean or not so clean. This is very contagious and you need to administer Head Lice shampoo
not only for the person that has it but to everybody in the family. These little monsters love crawling from head to
head and nobody is left out.
ABSENTEES
You would have noticed on the new reports the attendance is noted down for each half day your child was at school.
If you believe this to be incorrect it may be because the office was not told of absences soon enough and that is why
it is really important that this happens every time your child is away from school. I thank every vigilant parent for
their promptness in informing the school and the majority do that well. A phone call, an email or a sibling can let the
office know why your child is away, that would make it easier for Mrs Tolai to update the attendance roll.
BIRTHDAYS
Happy Birthday to our July birthdays: Sebastian Smith, Andreas Finepolo, Enya Siemsen and Mqren Al-Nuaimi.
May God always keep you close to His heart.
TERM DATES
The end of Term 2 is at 2.55pm, Friday 8th July.
Term 3 starts on Monday 25th July, 8.50am and will end on Friday 23rd September.
