You are required to cook a minimum of two (2) quarts of chili, (for public consump on), but you may cook more (finish volume). All Chilli prepared must be for public tas ng. The judges require 8 oz. for judging and the rest for sharing with a endees. It’ll be a fun night for all!

Would you wake up early to feed the hungry? Then this is the opportunity for you! Our council is responsible for picking up bread from the Publix at Baldwin Park. You go in as early as 5:00am ll 6:30am. Pick-up & deliver the bread to the council hall and go about your day. You are required to wear a Knights of Columbus shirt as a vendor. Can’t do it every week, then you don’t have to do it alone. Recruit a friend and swap off days. But REMEMBER the bread must be picked up; we cannot FORGET or we will lose this dona on for our community. Bread dona ons go directly to Beta House, Catholic Chari es and others. this month’s column is short and to the point. Everything you need to know about our council for last month and the next 3 months is printed in this issue. If you don’t read it, then you don’t know where we’ve been or where we are going.

Please, take a look and keep it handy. We will be elec ng a new Deputy Grand Knight at Monday night’s mee ng, Feb 1. Please a end so you can cast your vote for your candidate. In addi on, we will be taking nomina ons for at least one new office, that of Advocate, which just became vacant. Hope to see you there.

Just a reminder that our monthly communal mass is at 4:30 p.m. on the 4th Saturday every month, at Good Shepherd Church. Please check the calendar in this newsle er, as some mes we have to change the date. We can always use more Knights par cipa ng in this mass, dedicated to the Knights of Columbus both present and deceased, and we need to sit together. We have reserved 3 pews in the front, right side, near the altar. Please wear your KofC Council shirts and sit with us. People no ce us and this will help to recruit more members.

Knight of the Month for January 2016: Robert Kuzma, PGK. Congratula ons to Bob Kuzma, PGK on his selec on as KOM for January 2016. In addi on to being the immediately previous Grand Knight, Bob a ends St. Joseph’s Church where he is ac ve in various ministries. He coordinates the ST Joseph annual fall fes val with our council members, to supply brother Knights to help raise tents, man the funnel cake booth, and help with the beer truck. For some strange reason we always have more people volunteering to help with the beer truck! Bob is also extremely involved with the council, ac vely par cipa ng in Bingo, degree exemplifica ons, youth events, recrui ng events, and wherever volunteers are needed. He is an exemplary Knight, se ng the example for all others.

Family of the Month for January 2016: The Cruz Belardo Family , Congratula ons to Cruz Belardo and his family for being selected as January’s family of the month. The Belardo family a ends Good Shepherd Church. Cruz, Jayda and daughter Kristen, and even his grandson ???? are ac ve in the council, helping with bread runs, bingo, in the kitchen, and our annual New Year’s Eve Bingo Extravaganza. Cruz is also very ac ve assis ng our Youth Director, Tony Pagan, in all our youth ac vi es. We appreciate everything the Belardo family does to help our council to be successful. In addi on, Cruz ac vely par cipates in all the Spanish speaking degree exemplifi-ca ons, playing a cri cal role. The Belardo family is very much respected and appreciated for all they do to help make our coun-cil stronger and more fun.

We did not have a First Degree ceremony in January, but we did have a second degree ceremony. The brother knights who earned their second degree are (le to right): Hunter Brower, Bob Hurley, Brian Vogt, Carlos Abarca, and Fabio Albertella posing with Chancellor Wiley Boland.

The Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster

ELIGIBILITY

The Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest is open to all young people between the ages of 8 and 14.

AGE GROUPS

Contest entrants compete in one of two age groups – ages 8 through 11, and ages 12 through 14. (Note: Some school systems may have different age brackets for their elementary and middle schools. In some area, it may be appropriate to group students by grade rather than age. Sponsoring councils should use their own judgment in deciding how to group par cipants. Each local, regional and state compe on many have up to four winning entries, one from each age category.)

RULES

● Posters must reflect either the theme of Alcohol Awareness and Abuse or Drug Awareness and Abuse.● Each poster should be the original work (including concept, layout, slogan and any visual images) of a single person.● Posters must be 11X17 inches in size. If pastels, chalk or charcoal are used the poster must be laminated or covered with clear plas c. Posters may be in color or black and white.● Each poster must be submi ed with a Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest entry form. The name and age of the person entering the poster should be included on the back of the poster.● All entries become the property of the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council. Posters will not be returned.

The knights of Columbus Council #2112 shared a wonderful experience by a ending the 10th Annual Pro-Life March at Saint Augus ne, Florida. The event was held on Saturday January 16, 2016 from 8am- 4:30pm. The March for Life St. Augus ne is an annual event that includes live music, a procession in historic downtown, guest speakers and a dinner. As many as 2500 people from all over Florida have joined in the March for Life in past years to support an -abor on and pro-life causes. Youth from several youth ministries represen ng our parishes were present and shared me with our Knights both in conversa on and in prayer. The bus ride to the event was very spiritual because the youth ministry leaders led all the riders in a special Pro-Life

Knights Share Pro-Life Experience with Our Amazing Youth

Rosary Prayer and our departure also was led by a Special Rosary Prayer. A wonderful group of 80 youth, parents, youth ministers and Knights enjoyed each others company. Our dynamic Knights from different councils around Florida; demonstrated the Knight’s unity by serving as the honor guard to this spiritually mo vated march and parade. Our Sir Knights of Council #2112 demonstrated one of our most cherished virtues of charity by serving lunch to our youth, parents, youth ministers, bus drivers and the homeless that gathered to be fed. Special thanks to the following Knights for the me they volunteered to make our event memorable: PGK Robert Kuzma, Lecturer- Jose Aviles, Joshua Aviles Torres. The event went very well. We had more than enough food, pizza and pastries and our par cipants experienced a safe and outstanding event. Be er than the wri en word are the pictures that tell the whole story!! Enjoy!!
