SAP Calculations

Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) calculationsare used to measure the energy efficiency of newbuild dwellings and make up a large part of theplanning and building compliance process. If a SAPreport fails or is not present, building projectscannot be signed off by Building Control.

SBEM Calculations

Simplified Building Energy Modelling (SBEM) calculations are used to assess the energy efficiency of new buildcommercial properties.

The calculations focus on a proposed building’sannual energy use and can identify ways to savemoney. SBEM calculations are performed both beforeand after construction (Design Stage and As Builtcalculations), and we always urge clients to involve us early in the design process.

Although primarily used for new buildings, there may be instances where it is necessary to perform a SBEM calculation for commercial extensions and conversions.

U-Value Calculations

U-Value calculations measure the thermaltransmittance of materials used within a building.

U-Value calculations measure the thermal transmittance of elements used within a building and are featured withinSAP and SBEM calculations.

Building regulations are constantly increasing the minimum U-Value requirements, making it crucial thatbuilding products are carefully selected throughout thedesign and construction process.


Site Based Testing

Air Tightness Testing

With very few exceptions, all newly built commercialand residential buildings are required to have an airtightness test.

A site-based blower door test is used to measureuncontrolled air leakage through the building fabric. A test which yields a high air permeability rating oftenindicates excessive leakage which can result inincreased fuel consumption and higher energy bills.

This service can also be tied in with our SAP and SBEM Calculations.

Acoustic Testing

Part E of the Building Regulations states that all newly built adjoined properties must pass an acoustic test prior to completion. We can undertakesound testing to ensure your residential developmentcan demonstrate a reasonable resistance to the levelof sound/noise.

Our team can undertake an airborne test whichmeasures the resistance to the passage of airbornesound through a separating wall or floor, as well as animpact test which measures the sound transmission ofa separating floor in a test which simulates footfall.

The Energy Savings OpportunityScheme (ESOS) is a mandatorygovernment scheme which aims toincrease awareness of energyconsumption amongst largerbusinesses, with a focus on reducingcosts and improving inefficiencies.

Who qualifies for ESOS?

Organisations with 250 or more UK employees, or an annual turnover in excess of €50 million with a balancesheet totalling over €43 million need to comply with ESOS,and must submit regular energy audits government to provecompliance with the scheme.
