Each summer since 2000, the Serpentine Gallery has invited a high-profile architect

to design a temporary pavilion, that pro-vides a unique showcase for contemporary

architectural practice. The pavilion is host to a special programme of film screenings,

talks, the BBC proms and café. Each fall the pavilions are dismantled and sold to defray

construction cost
