  • BAC CertifiedQuality andPerformanceServing the Industry Since 1938Founded in 1938, Baltimore AircoilCompany specializes in the design and manufacture of evaporativecooling and heat transfer equipment. The superior quality and performancebenefits of BAC products are theresult of a continuing research anddevelopment program and years ofengineering experience. The designand construction innovationsdeveloped by BAC engineers offermore installation flexibility and easiermaintenance plus longer, morereliable, and cost effective operation.Every BAC Series V Cooling Towercomes with a five year mechanicalequipment warranty and the BACcommitment of customer satisfaction.

Research and DevelopmentBAC maintains the industrys most advancedcooling tower research and productdevelopment facility where a broad range ofenvironmental and operating conditions aresimulated to evaluate material and componentperformance. After new concepts are screenedby computer modeling, tests are conducted onprototype modules used in conceptualdevelopment as well as full scale operatingcooling towers.

In addition to controlled environmental testing,a broad range of material and componentdevelopment programs are conducted. Theseprograms include fan development, dynamicand static stress evaluations, accelerated agingand corrosion testing, hydraulic tests and windtunnel tests.

The BAC research and development programhas resulted in over a hundred patents and themost complete line of proven evaporativecooling products in the industry.

  • ISO 9001 CertificationISO 9001 Certification guarantees the consis-tently high quality of Series V Cooling Towers.

It confirms BACscommitment to qualityassurance and reaffirmsthat BAC meets inter-national standards set

for management principles, designs, closed-loopcorrective action, training and documentationcontrol in all of its engineering and manufac-turing operations.

Exclusive CTI Performance CertificationThe thermal performance of BAC Series VCooling Towers has been certified by the

Cooling TechnologyInstitute in accordancewith its standard STD-201.CTI Certification assuresthat the thermalcapacities set forth in this

brochure accurately reflect actual cooling towerperformance and eliminates the need for costlyindividual cooling tower testing. BAC is theonly manufacturer of forced draft centrifugalfan cooling towers whose thermal performanceis independently certified.

NOTE: The Cooling Technology Institute (CTI)is a nonprofit self-governing technical associationof manufacturers, users, and suppliers ofevaporative cooling equipment, and engineeringfirms having an interest in water conservation. It is dedicated to improving the technology, design, performance, and maintenance ofevaporative cooling equipment. As such, CTIoffers a thermal performance certificationprogram to all cooling tower manufacturers.

Five Year Mechanical Equipment WarrantyThe five year warranty providedon BAC Series V Cooling Towersis the most comprehensive fanmotor and mechanical equipmentwarranty available in the industry.Included in the five year warrantyare mechanical equipment

support, fans, fan shafts, bearings, sheaves, andstandard totally enclosed fan cooled fan motors.

Principle of OperationWater from the heatsource is distributedover the wet decksurface through largeorifice spray nozzles.Simultaneously, air isblown upward overthe wet deck surface, causing a smallportion of the waterto evaporate. Thisevaporation removes

the heat from the remaining water. The cooledwater is collected in the tower sump andreturned to the heat source.

  • Series VAdvantagesEngineered for a Wide Range of ApplicationsThe versatility of BAC Series V Cooling Towersensures efficient operation in a variety of appli-cations including heavy industrial, process, refrigeration, and HVAC. They provide manyinstallation, maintenance, and operation featureswhich result in lower cost of ownership. Fromoverall design and component configuration tomaterials and performance specifications, BACSeries V Cooling Towers are engineered to bereliably operated under a wide range of conditions.

Installation Flexibility andMinimal Rigging CostBAC Series V Cooling Towers can be ideallylocated to meet virtually any engineering, environmental, or aesthetic requirements.Design features include single-sided air inletand vertical discharge which permit the towerto be positioned in tight layouts. Ducted unitsare available which can be located indoors for aesthetic conditions, reliable year roundoperation, or for a sound sensitive application.

For architectural or height sensitiveinstallations, the innovative LowProfile Series V Cooling Tower can be used to reduce the overall height of enclosures.

The modular design of the Series V CoolingTowers can greatly reduce rigging costs. Thefan sections are built into the pan with themotors and drives factory-installed and aligned. As a result, rigging consists only of placing thefan/pan section in place and mounting the heattransfer section on top of it.

Low Sound OperationBAC Series V Cooling Towers featurecentrifugal fans which have inherent low soundcharacteristics to meet specific sound require-ments. For situations when one direction isparticularly sound sensitive, the unit can beoriented so that the quiet blank off panel facestoward the sound sensitive direction. Wheneven quieter operation is desired, Series VCooling Towers can be supplied with optionalsound attenuators.

Low Profile Series V units ship completelyassembled and ready to set in place using conve-niently located lifting devices.

  • Easy MaintenanceRoutine cleaning and maintenance of coolingtowers prolong equipment life and ensuresystem performance. BAC Series V CoolingTowers are designed to be easily cleaned and

maintained.Allmechanicalequipment is locatedoutside themoistairstreamand can beaccessedfrom thebase of the tower. The uniquesloping

pan localizes dirt and debris for easy removal. The strainer and makeup valve can be readilyaccessed for routine cleaning and adjustment.

Reliable Year Round Operation BAC Series V Cooling Towers are designed tooperate reliably and efficiently under a widerange of conditions including low ambienttemperatures. Fans, motor, and drive system are

located outside of the moist discharge airstreamprotecting them from moisture condensationand icing. Patented four-sided fan cowlingenables efficient close temperature control andminimum energy consumption.

Cost Effective Operation and Standby CapabilityReduced operating costs can be achieved duringoff peak operation by taking advantage of theENERGY-MISER Fan System optionavailable on Series V Cooling Towers.

The ENERGY-MISER Fan System is anenergy-saving capacity control alternative totwo-speed motors for Series V Cooling Towers. It consists of two standard, single-speed fanmotors and drive assemblies. One driveassembly is sized for full speed and load, and the other is sized for approximately 2/3 speed, and consumes only 1/3 of design horsepower. This allows the system to be operated like atwo-speed motor, but with the reserve capacity of a standby motor in the event of a failure. In fact, controls and wiring are virtuallyidentical to those required for a two-speed, two-winding motor.

Significant energy savings are achieved whenoperating at the lower speed during periods of reduced load and/or wet bulb temperature. The ENERGY-MISER Fan System iscomprised entirely of stock components for quickreplacement from any BAC factory.
