ACTUATOR PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

Selection of Double Acting Actuators Determme the requored valve torque. this should include 25% safety margin. and the minimum operatmg pressure available. Refer to the pressure I torque table and select the minimum pressure column applicable. Follow this column down until a value not less than that required is found. Next read across to the left hand column and read the model number to be ordered.

Remark: The chosen torque value, which apply to the type of actuator should never be lower than the required torque value of the valve.

Principle of Operation Counter clockwise output: operation is achieved by inserting pressure into Port 'A', to force t:he postons apart thus rotating the actuaror pinion counter clockwise. During this operation, air from the outer chambers Is exhausted through Port 'B'. Clockwise output operarlon is achieved by reverse of the above and inserting pressure Into Port 'B'.

Selection of Spring Return Actuators Determine l:he required valve torque, this should include 25% safety margin. and the minimum operating pressure available. Select from the "Spring Stroke I "0"' table a value chat is not less than the required valve torque (including safety marg1n). Next refer to the pressure cable and select under your minimum pressure and " 0 "" torque column a figure not less than that required.

Principle of Operation Pressure applied to Port 'A' will cause me inner chambers to be pressurized, forcing the pistons outward to compress the springs. The pinion is rotated counter clockwise. Upon release of pressure through Port 'A' the springs will exert pressure w dose the pistons and rotate the pinion clockwise rapidly. This action will often be used to close a 90" tUrn valve in shutdown mode.
