TRAINING ON CONSUMER LAWS FOR DISTRICT OFFICERS OF DIRECTORATE OF INDUSTRIES & COMMERCE KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA,

PESHAWAR, (CONSUMER PROTECTION COUNCIL WING) 3RD SEPTEMBER, 2018

The Training of District Officers from Directorate of Industries & Commerce Khyber Pakhtunkhwa concluded in KP Judicial Academy on 6th September 2018. This was a four day training which mainly focused on various related issues like Implementation of Consumer Protection Act 1997 (amended 2017), Office Management/Administration and Accounts/ Budget. The participants of the training included District Officers from Abbottabad, Charsadda, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, and Swat. The resource persons from different departments held interactive sessions with the participants on the above mentioned topics. This training was conducted on the request of Directorate of Industries & Commerce KP Peshawar.

CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING (I) OF BAILIFFS AND PROCESS SERVERS AT KP JUDICIAL ACADEMY (14-15 SEP, 2018)

A series for capacity building trainings for the court staff of district judiciary held at KP Judicial Academy on 14th and 15th September, 2018. The training of this series comprises of the court staff of district judiciary Peshawar. The training mainly focused on working of Process Severing Agency . The course includes lectures on their job description as mentioned in Judicial Esta code. The topics includes · Ethics & Mannerism, · Service, Kinds/ Modes, Affixation, · Common Mistakes in Process Serving with Focus on Report Writing, · Arrest, Detention & Search · Execution of decree & role of Process Serving Agency and Report writing · Warrant of Possession & Delivery of Possession: Theory & Demonstration · Communication Skills: Urdu The resource persons included faculty members of the Academy and Judges from the District Judiciary. The concluding ceremony held on the last day of training. Dr. Khurshid Iqbal, Director General, distributed certificates amongst the participants.

CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING (II) OF BAILIFFS AND PROCESS SERVERS FROM MARDAN & MALAKAND (18-19 SEPTEMBER, 2018) AT KPJA

Capacity building training (II) for the court staff of district judiciary held at KP Judicial Academy on 18th-19th September, 2018. Bailiffs and Process Servers from District Mardan and Malakand district participated in the training. The training has mainly focused on working of Process Severing Agency. The course includes lectures on their job description as mentioned in Judicial Esta code. CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING (III) OF BAILIFFS AND PROCESS SERVERS FROM DISTRICT CHARSADDA AND NOWSHERA (26-27 SEP, 2018)

Two-days capacity building training (III) for the court staff of district judiciary held at KP Judicial Academy on 26-27 September, 2018. More than Twenty Bailiffs and Process Servers from district Charsadda & Nowshera participated in the training. The course includes lectures on their job description as mentioned in Judicial Esta code. The topics includes · Ethics & Mannerism, · Service, Kinds/ Modes, Affixation, · Common Mistakes in Process Serving with Focus on Report Writing, · Arrest, Detention & Search · Execution of decree & role of Process Serving Agency and Report writing · Warrant of Possession & Delivery of Possession: Theory & Demonstration · Communication Skills: Urdu The resource persons included faculty members of the Academy and Judges from the District Judiciary. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING (PDT) FOR YOUNG LAWYERS OF THE PROVINCE AT KP JUDICIAL ACADEMY (SEP 24 - OCT 05, 2018)

A Two-week training for professional development and capacity building of the young lawyers held at KP Judicial Academy (Sep 24- Oct 5th 2018). As many as twenty five young lawyers from five districts of Province, (Battagram, Dir Upper, Shangla, Kohistan, D.I Khan ,Paharpur) participated in the training. The training course was tailored to the needs of young lawyers to perform efficiently. The focus of the contents was on areas of legal ethics, Bench Bar relationship, traits of a successful lawyer, legal research techniques, drafting skill, cross-examination, case presentation skills and the role of a lawyer in ADR. Experienced lawyers and judges of the Provincial Judiciary were the resource persons for the training. During the concluding ceremony, the class representative expressed his satisfaction regarding the effectiveness and usefulness of the training. He further added that the number, duration and frequency of such trainings may be enhanced. The participants also expressed their profound gratitude to the Peshawar High Court and the Academy for arranging the training. The Dean Faculty/Senior Director Administrator of the Academy, Mr. Sohail Sheraz Noor Sani distributed certificates amongst the participants. In his speech he highlighted the importance of training for all stakeholders of Judiciary. In the future, the Academy will conduct more trainings of similar nature for young lawyers.

MR. FAZAL SUBHAN, (DISTRICT & SESSIONS JUDGE) ASSUMES CHARGE AS NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL (DG) KPJA, ON 9TH OCTOBER, 2018

Mr. Fazal Subhan, District and Sessions Judge, has been appointed as new Director General (DG) of KP Judicial Academy by the Honorable Chairman KP Judicial Academy/ Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Peshawar. Mr. Subhan has an illustrious career spanning more than three decades. Before assuming charge as DG Judicial Academy he served as provincial Accountability Judge. He held various judicial and administrative positions and rose to prominence as a qualified judge and able administrator.

He remained posted in various positions throughout his career. He is a career judicial officer. Initially he remained posted as Civil Judge. Later on was promoted as Sr. Civil Judge, Additional District & Sessions Judge and District & Sessions Judge.

On the basis of his exceptional performance throughout his career, he has excellent reputation, extensive judicial experience and outstanding managerial skills.

FACULTY GETS NEW DEAN/SENIOR DIRECTOR ADMINISTRATION

Mr. Sohail Sheraz Noor Sani, (District & Sessions Judge) joined KP Judicial Academy as Dean Faculty / Sr. Director Administration w.e.f 04.10.2018. Mr. Sani joined Provincial Judiciary as civil judge in 1998 through a competitive exam. During the course of his judicial career, he remained as Civil Judge, Senior Civil Judge, Additional District & Sessions Judge and rose to the position of District & Sessions Judge. He remained posted as District & Sessions Judge of different districts of the province, and has also served the KP Judicial Academy as Sr. Director Research & Publications, Dean and Sr. Director Administration and recently as District and Session Judge Battagram. He has in-depth knowledge of legal system issues, including knowledge of civil, criminal and constitutional standards and their linkages to broader legal educational development and initiatives.

DIRECTOR RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS (R&P)

Mr. Zia-Ur-Rehman (Additional District & Sessions Judge) has been appointed as Director Research and Publication KP Judicial Academy Peshawar w.e.f 08.10.2018. He joined Judiciary as civil Judge in 2003. He holds degree in law and Shariah from International Islamic University with distinction. During the course of his judicial career, he remained as Civil Judge, Senior Civil Judge and rose to the position of Additional District & Sessions Judge. Before joining KP Judicial Academy as Director R&P, Mr. Zia served as Additional District & Sessions Judge Lakki Marwat.

Mr. Zia has also served this Academy as Director Instructions and Sr. Director Administration in 2017-2018. He is author of a refencer/compilation titled as "Law Giving Verses of Holy Quran and Sunnah".

DIRECTOR INSTRUCTIONS-II

Mr. Ahmad Iftikhar (Addl; District & Sessions Judge) has been appointed as Director Instruction-II KP Judicial Academy Peshawar w.e.f 05.10.2018. Mr. Iftikhar joined District Judiciary as Civil Judge in 2003. He served different districts as civil Judge, Senior Civil Judge and rose to the position of Additional District & Sessions Judge. Before this assignment in KP Judicial Academy, he served as Addl; District & Sessions Judge Abbottabad.

ONE-WEEK TRAINING FOR NEWLY INDUCTED LAWYERS FROM ACROSS KP PROVINCE (22-26 OCTOBER, 2018) AT KPJA

Another One-week training program for Newly Inducted Lawyers from across KP Province held on 22-26 October, 2018 at KP Judicial Academy, Peshawar. Twenty Eight young lawyers from districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa( Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram, Dir Upper, Shangla, Buner, Tank, Lakki Marwat & D.I. Khan) participated in this training. The training course was tailored to the needs of young lawyers to perform efficiently. The focus of the contents was on areas of Professional Ethics, Drafting Skills, Civil & Criminal Case Management, Framing of Charge, Law of Bail & Superdari, Skills for examination of witnesses, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Orientation to Revenue Record, Precedents, Bench Bar Relationship, Commission Proceedings and Framing of Issues. Mr. Fazal Subhan, DG KPJA, distributed certificates amongst the participants in a simple but elegant concluding ceremony.

INTRODUCTORY MEETING WITH JUSTICE SECTOR STAKEHOLDERS & WELL WISHERS HELD ON 18TH OCTOBER, 2018 AT KPJA

Keeping in view its mandate to strive for capacity building of all stakeholders of the justice sector, the New administration of the academy invited all the stakeholders as well as non-governmental organizations working in justice sector to a special meeting, held on 18th October 2018, aimed at discussing a way forward for mutual collaboration. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the following departments and organizations:

LOA BETWEEN KPJA & UNDP FOR YEAR 2018-19

To accomplish different tasks in accordance with its mandate, the KP Judicial Academy is in the process and Signing of LOA with UNDP for the year 2018-19 regarding the following activities. 1. Design training evaluation software, methodology and recruitment system to evaluate judicial officers in their compulsory training and service delivery. 2. Development of research policy and governing rules/SOPs for funding schemes and its utilization at KPJA. 3. Develop a system at KPJA to link the KPJA training database to performance evaluations of the judicial officers for their career progression. 4. Support PHC/KPJA in drafting rules under Criminal Procedure Code to be presented in a conference of justice sector institutions. 5. Analysis of rules of business of the Peshawar High Court HR cell to propose additions/amendments. Establishment of a mechanism at PHC to improve referral, redressal and coordination including a training on human rights for focal points/judicial officers.
