• Thrice has been a staple in the alternative-modern-rock world for nearly ten years now. With no real need for introduction, Thrice is known for effortlessly and continuously releasing groundbreaking records. Their eighth album Major/Minor is no exception.• Major/Minor was tracked and produced by long-time friend and Vheissu mixer, Dave Schiffman at Redbull Studios in Los Angeles. Much like Beggars, Major/Minor was derived in large part by jam sessions and is quite literally the brain-child of all four band members. “We have four very different minds in our band. We all enjoy very different areas of music, and share a very similar center, notes bassist Eddie. “The songs on Major/Minor are essentially the four of us fi ghting back and forth to get them to our most centered place.” The resulting tracks are well worth the fi ght.

• Following the success of their debut full length Cancer (2009) and sold-out national tours throughout 2010, CONFESSION prepares to push forward.• With members living in Adelaide, Byron Bay and Melbourne, the quintet took proceedings to the North Coast, to the Parkway house in Byron Bay, to write 10 new songs. Doing so essentially “made this record what it is,” as being in the house is so “relaxing and peace-ful,” tells vocalist Michael Crafter.• Recorded with iconic Swedish metal producer Fredrik Nordström (Bring Me The Horizon, I Killed The Prom Queen, In Flames), at his Gothenburg Studio, The Long Way Home presents an assured and strengthened outfi t. “We knew he was going to make this record sound amazing and he did exactly that,” says Crafter, of the talented producer.• Musically the album unveils a “faster and more intense” sound, than Blunt Magazine’s Australian Album of the Year for 2009, Cancer; which also debuted at #1 on the AIR Independent Charts. Though in keeping true to their roots, fusing both heavy and melodic elements together “is what we have always been about,” claims Crafter. And keeping “a good balance is what we have achieved.”

THE BANDANA SPLITS MR SAM PRESENTS THE BANDANA SPLITSESSENTIAL MUSIC / ALTERNATIVE

• The Bandana Splits formed this year when Annie, Dawn & Lauren met in Brooklyn and started singing together. They recorded their debut album at Saltlands Studio with producer Sam Cohen (of the band Apollo Sunshine) at the helm. All songs were sung live with the girls around one mic and Mr. Sam playing all the instruments.• The girls’ sound is reminiscent of the great Girl Groups of the 50’s and 60’s, inspired by The Ronettes, The Caravelles and The Andrews Sisters. This record is packed with sure-fi re hits, 12 original songs and a few covers including an amazing version of “You Don’t Have to be a Baby to Cry” made popular in 1963 by The Caravelles and an oh-so-sweet a capella rendition of a song that Lauren’s mother learned on her honeymoon.• Annie, Dawn, and Lauren have struck a sweet chord in our hearts.

• La Dispute’s “Wildlife,” the follow-up to their 2008 LP “Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair,” is a nearly 60-minute musical examination of the twentysomething search for purpose; an exploration of the struggles that confront, damage, and redefi ne us inevitably in life through 14 tracks of new material.• Recorded at both Drasik Studios in Chicago and StadiumRed in New York with Andrew Everding and Joe Pedulla using no artifi cial reverb, La Dispute’s sophomore full length organically captures the sound of fi ve friends committed to pushing their own creative boundaries while still retaining a desire to create honest and emotional music.• Marketing includes Blunt Magazine, Street Press, Facebook, Killyourstereo and Bombshell advertising.

• Adam Cohen releases his third studio album on October 7 on Cooking Vinyl through Shock.• Adam Cohen, the son of the legendary Leonard Cohen, quit the music business fi ve years ago, but has now returned, ready to honour his last name. His new album, Like A Man, is a collection of 10 intimate songs often recalling the late-60s and 70s recordings of his father, driven by lyrics and a Cohenesque romance.• Since releasing three major label albums — 1998 self-titled debut; 2004’s French-language Mélancolista and his band, Low Millions’ Ex-Girlfriends — Adam has attempted to downplay his lineage and defl ect questions about his famous dad. Adam explains. “Musically speaking, I was performing some kind of contortion act to not be seen purely as my father’s son.”• But his perspective has since changed. Besides, to have the poetic skill that Adam shows on Like A Man is not something that can be passed down through DNA; it is an intelligence, an insight and sensitivity that comes from within, no matter one’s parentage. Songs such as “Out of Bed,” “Like A Man,” “Beautiful” and “What Other Guy” are fi lled with beautiful, romantic sentiments, superlatives and metaphors to make any woman swoon.
