CAN YOU READ THIS? Imagine not being able to read this, or worse, not being able to see even larger things clearly like your loved one’s face. According to Prevent Blindness America and the National Eye Institute, the number of those ages 40 and older with vision impairment and blindness has increased 23 percent since the year 2000. There are thousands each year that can’t afford eye exams or glasses. Early detection can be key to preventing blindness. The following scripture touches me both physically and spiritually.

“Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from your law.” Psalm 119:18 Help me reach those in need. Let us help others see the light of Jesus through our kindness. We will be hosting a Prevent Blindness Screening October 15 from 9am to noon. The program is geared to screen uninsured individuals and provide resources for those in need. If you are interested in help-ing or need more information please contact me, Lesa Parry, Wesley Nurse, Church Office 655-8981 ex. 2153.

Mary Hankins was Executive Director for Wesley Daily Bread Soup Kitchen for thirty years. She remembered: “I saw kids coming out of the bushes and going through a dumpster looking for food.

I was so thankful to be involved in 1983 when Fr. Bob Hedges and Rev. Eugene Raphael decided it was time to start a soup kitchen in San Angelo. God had been working with me for a long, long time on that.” Without the sup-port of the community, Wesley Daily Bread Soup Kitchen would not have the funds to sus-tain this vital program. Donations provide hot meals, clothing, job assistance, health care, counseling, and travel assistance to doctor ap-pointments for those in need. This year we will memorialize Mary Hankins with our 1st Mary Hankins Memorial Golf Tournament. benefiting

SEPTEMBER 2018 Tony says. . .

We have wrapped up our series on “Worship” with scripture from 1 Chroni-cles and 2 Chronicles. The question we were presented with was “Where is God’s House? Ultimately we know that God appeared to King Solomon and an-swered his prayer with “……… Where my eyes and heart are that is where I will always be”. We had a great discussion and we joked about our questions being our final exam: they all passed with flying colors!! (September begins lessons

taught by Kraig Schell.) Several have asked questions about Sunday evening programming and when it begins for the new school year. From this point on, if you have questions regarding the Sunday youth schedule morning/evenings for the upcoming school year I will have to direct you to Pastor Brian since he is the youth director supervisor and will have knowledge of the plans for the new school year. Spirit questions I can answer and many of you have already asked about tour dates due to the fact that family and kids schedules for vacations and camps need to be planned far in ad-vance. Due to the fact that graduation dates are later this year the tour date will be June 6/7-15/16. The purpose for 6/7 and 15/16 is at this point there isn’t a full destination agenda and it will depend on travel and the number of churches that will offer to host us. I will get confirmation on the specific date of departure and return once the tour itinerary starts falling into place. Everyone have a great week! Thanks, Tony

Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to parents and talk a little bit about our Sunday School study this academic year. I am Kraig Schell – you may know me as the guitar player in the 11

th Hour band and Godspell.

My wife Paulette and I will be working through “The Story” with your middle-school and high-school kids this year. We are honored and humbled to be able to do so. We know many of you but some we do not – we hope to be able to change that as the year progresses. “The Story” is a 31-week journey through the Bible, written in narrative form. It reads much like a novel, but uses the exact lan-guage from the NIV of the Word. Bible stories can easily get “disconnected” from the overarching theme of Christianity – the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. This study will focus on the connections between the individual stories and the plan of God for His people. I very much wish such a study had been available for me in my teenage years. It would have corrected a lot of misconceptions about my faith that I labored under for a long time. So, our goal is to let your kids ask questions, even the tough ones, so that they can come to a more solid and well-informed understanding of their own faith and be able to sift through the myths and lies about Christianity that the world will throw at them. Parents, we are humbly asking that you encourage your kids to take part in the study as often as possible. Kids, we believe strong-ly that you will benefit from it. Also, if you ever have any questions or concerns about anything, please let us know. Most importantly, please keep us in prayer as we make this journey through the Word. Kraig
