I know everyone had a great time with their family and friends on their summer vacations enjoying a more relaxed time. It hardly seems possible that summer is over and fall is right around the corner. I always love fall as it always marks new beginnings. In the fall UMW will introduce a new reservation system for UMW programs where all meals will be prepaid either online or if you pre- fer by mailing in your check. When you arrive for a UMW program, check in will be quick and easy! More information is available in the September program section below. Fall also brings opportunities to reconnect with our UMW friends. We are excited to kick off our fall programs with Missy Buchanan at the September 8th lunch pro- gram sharing “What Aging Can Teach Us About Living Faithfully.” Another opportunity in September to recon- nect with your UMW friends and make new friends is to attend HPUMC Women’s Ministry Women’s Retreat on September 13-14 with Candace Winslow as the speaker. In October UMW will present a panel during our evening program entitled “Abuse: Not in Your Neighborhood?” Rev. Paul Rasmussen will be moderating the panel featuring guest speakers Jan Langbein (Genesis Shelter), Paige McDaniel (Community Partners), and Ellen Magnis (Dallas Children’s Advocacy). We have the opportunity in November to journey across the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge to tour the new trauma tower at Methodist Dallas Medical Center and see the refurbished Wesley-Rankin Commu- nity Center. To wrap up the year UMW will lead several Christmas service projects with the church, dedicate our Chrismons, and experience our special Christmas program with Candace Winslow sharing “Women of the Manger.” I encourage you to continue to be involved in UMW by attending UMW programs, participating in UMW service opportunities (such as working at the Cornerstone Café), helping make and sell sponsorships of Chrismons, participating in Circle activities, and supporting UMW’s mission work through your annual UMW gift. As I mentioned at the May program, this is a great time to celebrate, to stay connected, and to answer the callthe call from our community and our fellow sisters in UMW. Blessings, Cheri

You may think that any talk about aging is not for you. The fact is everyone is growing older! And most everyone has an aging loved one... a grandparent, parent or friend who is dealing with the challenges of physical decline.

Missy Buchanan is the co-author with Robin Roberts from Good Morning America and her mother of the book: My Story, My Song – Mother-Daughter Reflections on Life and Faith. Missy’s own books include: Joy Boosters: 120

Ways to Encourage Older Adults, Living with Purpose in a Worn-Out Body, Don’t Write My Obituary Just Yet: Inspiring Faith Stories for Older Adults and more! Come and hear some behind-the-scenes stories of Robin Roberts and her family who experienced the journey through aging with their beloved mother, Lucimarian. Whatever stage of life you are in; join us as we all learn how to age gracefully!

Also on September 8th, UMW will be celebrating our annual Call to Prayer and Self-Denial service. This year’s theme is “Sound Foundations: Sound Missions.” The offering taken as part of this service will go towards renovating, expanding and greening the buildings that house the critical work of National Mission Institutions and historically related inter-national institutions. These institutions, founded by United Methodist Women and their forbearers more than 100 years ago, include community centers, domestic violence and homeless shelters, and children’s homes, schools, colleges
