• 10% Challenge in 2009– Community organizations reached out to their members/families– About 490 households took the 10% Challenge, saving energy & money, making
commitments keeping 4 million pounds of CO2 out of the atmosphere
• Reach 1,000 during Needham’s Tercentennial Year– Represents about 10% of Needham households
In this Tercentennial year, Green Needham Collaborative commends the following groups,
organizations and businesses for their outstanding efforts to reduce energy use and for their commitment
to a sustainable future for Needham

• Wind Power Study at the RTS– Met Tower RFP & Installation this fall– Exploring “Engineer in Residence” at High School for formal
Wind Study
• Solar Power Feasibility at the RTS– Potential for 1 – 1.5 MW solar installation– Seeking funding for feasibility study ($5,000 -
$10,000)
Project Updates
• Green Communities– 35 Communities qualified in May, 2010
• Shared in $7 million competitive grant fund
• Another funding round this fall
– Targeting Needham qualification in Spring, 2011• Selectmen & Town Manager commit to municipal energy reduction
goals
• Planning Board working on Zoning By-Law for Spring, 2011 TM
• Selectmen & Town Meeting approval of “stretch” energy code
• Home Energy Efficiency Improvement Seminars– Helping overcome the barriers to making energy saving improvements
