Environment,Sustainable Project
Projects :Cinchona and Wallenford
A request for extension of the project at Cinchona until june 2011was formallyforwarded to thr Forestry Conservation Fund.
In respect of Wallenford , of the JA$21M grant, JA$19.1M would go to the Lions Club. A field visit was done to help finalize the work programme .. Maintenance of the 36 hectares already planted was being done.Planting of an additional 12.5 hectares was shifted to March to allow for time to prepare the seedlings and finalize the allocation of land by the Forestry Department

September18 Environment/Society for the blind
The Club continued with the clearing of the grounds of the overgrown shrubbery at the Jamaica Society for the Blind. Participating were Lion President Barrington, Lion Milton, Immediate Past President and eight Lions including one affiliate member. Also assisting in the clearing activity were four guests and Mr Lawson of the Society. The affiliate, Desmond, provided light refreshment, Lion Cynthia 2nd Vice President provided lunch and the other Lions provided tools, mowers and whackers.The team commenced the clearing operation at 9::00am and continued into1:30pm.
In spite of being tired they felt satisfied that they were able to assist those who were visually impaired.

Seotember 13 Health and Wellness
One Lion donated clothing – pants, shirts and underwear to a very sick man in desperate need .He was very grateful for the thoughtfulness of the giver.

September 16 Health and WellnessOne Lion participated in the care of a very ill woman whose life depended on her being placed on a schedule for haemodialysis. She and her family expressed their gratitude for the care shown .

September 19 Health and Wellness/Health FairAfter the one hour service the seniors were invited to participate in the health fair being held in the Church HallProject partners participating were : Caledonia Medical Labs, St John Ambulance Brigade , Lions Club of St Andrew Central .and a doctor The St John ambulance gave demonstration on first aid and a talk on Disaster preparedness. They also distributed literature on First Aid and disaster management, one doctor and Lions Club of St Andrew Central were busy doing Blood pressure, and vision testing while the Mona Lion did Blood sugar checks. Caledonia Labs concentrated on doing cholesterol and blood glucose testsRepresentatives from the print and electronic media covered the event.

September 25 Health and Wellness / Health Fair
The Lions Club of Mona shared with the Lions Club of St Mary in a health fair at the Highgate health Center. Participating from Mona were Lions Milton and Evadney, a past Lion and a guest.. Fifty four (54) vision screening and twenty five (25) body mass indices were done. Of the 54 persons that were screened 40 had to be referred for management and treatment of the particular condition. The greatest numbers were in the 40- 60 age group.Those persons who had their BMI were counseled regarding their food intake and weight management.

September 19 . Geriatrics and Senioor Citizens
The Mona Lions in recognition of September as Senior Citizens’ month , transported the seniors in both geriatrics homes to the church service held at the St Cyprians Anglican Church in August Town. Other seniors in the same environs were also invited to attend the church service After the service a health fair was executed ; this ended at 3:30pm.Lion Dave ,Zone Chairman brought greetings on behalf of the President who was ill.. The pastor praised the Lions for selecting the seniors at St. Cyprians and August Town for the special Senior Citizens month treat.Lions present were: Lion June McCatty, MJF (District Governor), Lion Judy King, MJF (Cabinet Secretary/Treasurer), Lion Cathy Peart, MJF (Region Chairman), Lion Dave Scarlett, MJF (Zone 4A ChairmanMona Lions: Milton, Cynthia, Keith P., Marva, Pat, Evadney, Josephine (and Dave).After the service Grocery packages were delivered to the seniors at the George Abraham and Bedward Gardens Homes. A hot meal was also served. For those seniors who were unable to go to the church their meals were taken to them. Forty (40) senior citizens benefitted.

.Membership/ Interclubbing
The Lions Club of Mona inter-clubbed with the Lions Club of Downtown Kingston at their social meeting. Special guest at the meeting was Mrs. Yvonne Mc Calla- Sobers who spoke on “Vision for our country”. Mona Lions attending were: Lion Barry (President), Lions Milton (IPP), Evadney (Secretary), Josephine (Membership Director), Keith A. (Tail Twister), and guests Richard Bramwell, prospective member and Mr. Ric Anan of Canada --guest of the Lion President.Mrs Sobers presentation was very inspiration, she spoke from her heart, giving personal experiences.. The Lions Club of Mona inter-clubbed with the Lions Club of St Andrew at their Social meeting. .Special guest for the evening was Mr Donovan Wignall speaking of the responsibilities and challenges of Customs and Forward Freighters. His talk provoked lengthy discussions. The meeting was an enjoyable one.
. September 20 Membership/Social Meeting
Our regular social meeting was a meeting with a difference. Lion Faithlyn Muir (Affiliate member) hosted. Special features included (a) A display of health foods, compliments of CARI-MED, and (b) a guest presenter Dr. Derek Senior aNaturopathic Physician, who enlightened his audience with ’eating according to one’s blood type’. Clubs inter-clubbing with Mona were: Lions clubs of South Central St. Catherine, St. Andrew Central and Portmore

The Club continues to utilize the internet and other communication devices to keep in touch with members and to give vital information when necessary. This M&A for example. .
