JANUARY College Application Deadline Reminders The Student Office will CLOSE during winter break.The Student Office will submit ALL transcripts and recommendation letters BEFORE the winter break. If you have January application deadlines, BY FRIDAY DECEMBER 11, you MUST:INDICATE in Naviance that you have appliedREQUEST your transcripts in Naviance ENSURE that your teachers upload their recommendation lettersGeneral College Application RemindersReview your Naviance file with your counselor AT LEAST ONE WEEK before your admission deadline.Provide an autobiography to your counselor and anyone writing a recommendation letterAsk questions about ANYTHING you do not understand.LCHS will NOT PROCESS Naviance documentation submissions during holiday breaks.LCHS CANNOT guarantee it will submit your transcripts and recommendations on time if you do either of the following within 10 calendar days of your application deadline:Add schools to your application listRequests transcripts and recommendation letters

Free Application for Federal Student AidFAFSAFSA IDJanuary 1 is when the 2016-17 FAFSA application opens and you will be expected to filed the FAFSA in order to receive the best college financial aid package possible.But before you can apply for the 2016-17 FAFSA, you and a parent must both apply for a FSA ID. This is new this year and takes the place of the pin number.Review your FSA ID handout for more information and take this handout home so you and your parent can create your FSA ID now!How to fill out the FAFSA

Lets recap what you just heardFree Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)The FAFSA is the primary form of government aid to pay for college.In order to receive financial aid and many scholarships you must file the FAFSA!Dont wait until you file your 2015 taxes estimate your income, submit your FAFSA application, then log in and make corrections once you have filed your taxes. There is no penalty for filing your FAFSA with an estimated income.

FAFSA Dates and deadlines:2016-17 FAFSA Application opens on January 1st.Be sure to file for the 2016-17 school year in which you will be attending college.Never pay to file the FAFSA, Its FREE!File before February 1 to have the best opportunity to get funding.College Bound Scholarship students must file by February 1st.Dont wait until you are admitted to college to file the FAFSA.Re-apply every year between Jan 1-Feb 1.

How Do I Apply For Financial Aid Money?Create a FSA ID: https://fsaid.ed.gov.This will be YOUR unique online signature that you will use to sign the FAFSA every year.Your parent will create his or her own unique FSA ID as well.Submit the FAFSA: www.fafsa.ed.gov.Submit any other applications required by your college or the state (check with colleges financial aid website).Community Colleges of Spokane require an additional Data Sheet to be completed and sent to them, as well as the FAFSA. You will not receive financial aid from them if you do not submit the Data Sheet by their deadline.

11Be sure you are at the .gov site for the FAFSA. There is a .com site which will submit the FAFSA for you, but it will charge you $90 (the FAFSA is FREE!!!)Some colleges may require other Financial Aid type documents, be sure you check with the school you plan to attendSFCC/SCC require a Data Sheet to be completed and sent in as well as the FAFSA. You will not receive financial aid from them if you do not submit the Data Sheet. (These can be picked up in the Career Center)State Aid, and all Financial Aid for that matter, is first come, first serve. It is imperative that you meet the priority deadlines when applying.Maintaining satisfactory academic progress usually means 2.0+ GPA.Be sure you enter your name on the FAFSA exactly as it appears on your Social Security card.Males, ages 18-25, who do not register for the selective service, will not be eligible for financial aid. There is a link on the FAFSA for you to register there.What if Im not an eligible citizenStudents who are unable to file a FAFSA due to immigration status, may instead complete the FREE Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WAFSA) form.

This form will determine your eligibility to receive State Need Grant funds for college.
