A Letter from our Director of Fundraising and Communications

2

What better charity to work for than the UK’s Charity of

the Year? What better team for an exceptional senior

fundraising manager to join than the UK’s Fundraising

Team of the Year? And what better place to work than in

The Ark, our brand new state-of-the-art children’s

hospice building, which is set on a stunning 7.5-acre

nature reserve?

This is a wonderful opportunity to lead on key areas of

fundraising which will enable an improved quality of life for

seriously unwell babies, children and young people. As a

result of your success you will see more children and their

families receive a wider breadth of care, and hear from those

beneficiaries about the impact of the funds you have raised.

Noah’s Ark’s impressive growth, including completion of our

£13.5m Building The Ark Appeal, has been driven by our

expertise in relationship fundraising. This personal approach

is the bedrock of our success and will remain key – including

for this role. But as we enter a pivotal stage in Noah’s Ark

history we need to diversify our income sources and our

fundraising approach to ensure financial sustainability.

To achieve this we are looking for a Senior Head of

Supporter Engagement. This is a newly created role with

responsibility for areas with massive growth potential. You

will lead on devising a strategy for individual supporter

acquisition and engagement, creating robust systems and

processes to ensure that every supporter is engaged and

stewarded in a way that massively exceeds expectations.

You will have experience of leading, to an outstanding level,

an Individual / Public Giving Fundraising function, including

Legacy Giving – an area we are eager to give a renewed

focus. You will manage a team to help carry out that strategy

and play a hands-on role in delivery too.

I am very eager for the supporter journey between income

streams to be seamless. In particular between individual,

community and events. To that end, whilst significant

experience in community and event fundraising is not a

prerequisite, you will have confidence in your ability to add

value through collaborative lateral thinking and process

building.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice has come so far, tripling the

number of children supported over the last five years and

opening The Ark. However, the current crisis and resultant

significant demand for our services has made it clear that

the job is far from complete. We have built The Ark, now we

must bring it to life. This is your opportunity to join an

ambitious, driven and supportive team, working together to

bring that dream to fruition.

If you would like an informal conversation before applying,

please contact Naomi Carruthers at QuarterFive

Recruitment on [email protected] or 07538 576637.

To use the charity’s parlance, I hope to welcome you

“aboard The Ark” soon.

With best wishes

Anthony Hayman

About Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice

3

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice helps seriously unwell children and their families

make the most of the special time they have together. The majority of babies and

children we support are unlikely to reach their 18th birthday.

With talented individuals who share our passion to improve the lives of seriously

unwell children and their families, we're changing the landscape for paediatric

palliative care in North and Central London, as well as Hertsmere.

We are Charity Today’s ‘Charity of the Year’ and Charity Times’ Fundraising

Team of the Year’. Our culture is fast-paced, innovative and supportive. Based in

The Ark, a brand new children’s hospice building set on a stunning 7.5-acre

nature reserve in Barnet, we work to build an inclusive environment in which

everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, age, or background, can do their

best work.

“Nobody can take my daughter’s illnesses away but Noah’s

Ark’s wonderful social workers, nurses and carers put a

smile on our faces, fight for us, and give me a safe space to

cry my tears, so I can stay strong for my daughter. Noah’s

Ark is like a family to us now.”

Our community-based services

“Our son suffered catastrophic brain damage at birth. We

categorically know that his life needs to mean something…

for all of us as a caring and compassionate society.

Whatever happens to our lovely son, we know that Noah’s

Ark will be with us right until the end of his journey.”

Family Link: Each family referred to us has a single point of contact to make

sure that the whole family gets the personalised, tailored support that they need.

Support in the home: Our nurse-trained specialist carers as well as our army of

volunteers go into people’s homes to help directly with the child and more broadly

around the home. They give parents a break to pop out for a cup of coffee or

spend time with the unwell child’s siblings.

Activities: We offer children the chance to have fun and rewarding experiences

and make friends. Whether it’s days out for the whole family, adventures for

siblings or parents’ support groups, we create precious moments which families

share and treasure.

The Ark

5

Designed by families, for families, The Ark was opened in September 2019

by the Mayor of London. The Ark is a place of light and life, where you will

find music, art, play and drama therapy; children blossoming in sensory and

soft play rooms; and the only fully accessible playground in London.

Coronavirus forced us to dramatically and rapidly expedite the opening of the

In-Patient Unit at The Ark, to relieve the NHS and help our families. We’ve

been there for children in acute need, including those at the end of their lives,

as well their families who are facing the unimaginable. We are resolutely

determined to be there for the children and families relying on us throughout

coronavirus, and beyond.

“This is a place of life, of light, of joy and of play. This is

a place that can let our children be more than the

difficulties they face and are labelled with. This is a

place where specialist care is offered, a place for

families to connect, a place where the most precious of

memories will be made”.
