The model was used as an efficeient means to experiment with the architectural form through the manipulation of timber blocks which were derived from Mathematical formula.

“The juxtaposition between light structure and heavy floor is emphasised by the orthogonal structural system and seating arrangement. Thus whilst having a geometrical relationship, the powerful presence of the timber structure emphasises the chaos of the staircase below.”

Detail in all scales ought to be evaluated in order to design a building in its totality. How does the small detail affect the aesthetic, structure and function of the entire component? The proposal for a ‘lightweight spanning element’ investigates lightness both in appearance and in material usage whilst having a strong integrity.
