“The juxtaposition between light structure and heavy floor is emphasised by the orthogonal structural system and seating arrangement. Thus whilst having a geometrical relationship, the powerful presence of the timber structure emphasises the chaos of the staircase below.”

Detail in all scales ought to be evaluated in order to design a building in its totality. How does the small detail affect the aesthetic, structure and function of the entire component? The proposal for a ‘lightweight spanning element’ investigates lightness both in appearance and in material usage whilst having a strong integrity.
