nounce that we'll be sponsoring a sewing school that will meet one evening a month and focus on a differ-

ent skill/project each time. Students who sign up will learn the basics of machine operation, fiber char-acteristics and care and a variety of construction techniques including use of a pattern and rotary cut-

ter. Along with this participants will get to take part in some community service activities as well. Look

for more information at orientations in August when we'll have dates and sample projects for you to look at. Members are going to wrap up this year's success with an end of the year project.

Film Screening Event The District Advisory Council recently concluded a book study of the text titled, “Most Likely to Succeed”. The book is a call to action for educators and communi-ties to reimagine public education to help meet the needs of today’s learner. The book is also an award winning documentary film that has been shown in schools allover the country. Later this spring, the District Advisory Council will be hosting a screening of this film for the entire Selah educational community. The purpose of this event is to foster meaningful discussion among educators, administrators, parents, and students about how current ob-stacles can be overcome and steps toward change can be taken on a local level. The hope is that these discussions will continue into next year and turn into partnerships, ideas and meaningful change to help our students be more prepared for their future.

There will be more information about the event in the weeks to come, but for now you can save the date of Wednesday, May 31st from approximately 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. At the SMS VPAC if you’re inter-ested in being a part of the conversation. More specific details, including how to RSVP, will be availa-ble soon!

For more information about the film visit MItsfilm.org or see the information here. If you have ques-tions about the screening event please speak to one of the SMS Dis-trict Advisory Council members : Roger Bennett, Christine Urakawa, and Rocehlle Cikauskas.
