In order for companies to mutually benefit

from automation, a commitment to

Standards is absolutely required

Benefit of Standards

Business information is organized according to a specific format, set by both trading partners, allowing a “hands-off” computer transaction that requires no human intervention or re-keying on either end.

Most of the data is the same as is in a traditional paper document.

Standards are designed to work across company boundaries, with updates and changes made by consensus, reflecting the needs of the industry, rather than those of a single organization.

Organizations have adopted e-commerce standards for the same reasons they embraced much of today’s modern technology; for enhanced efficiency and increased profits.

Electrical Channel Marketing Attribute Schema

© Copyright 2010. All rights reserved.

A Web Store Hierarchy is designed to direct customers to the desired product.

Hierarchy: “any system of persons or things ranked one above another.”

Hierarchy and Taxonomy are often used interchangeably.

Taxonomy: “the science or technique of classification”

An Attribute Schema identifies the information applicable to products, plus associated definitions and rules to standardize that information.

Attribute: “something attributed as belonging to a person, thing, group, etc.; a quality, character, characteristic, or property”

Schema: “an underlying organizational pattern or structure; conceptual framework.”

Regardless of the hierarchy used by different distributors, the products require the same

attributes.

“Providing rich, attributed data via IDW will help manufacturers differentiate their products based on key features and benefits.” Phil Barrios, Hubbell Inc.

• ISC begins updating UNSPSC codes for electrical products

2005

• ISC expands product categories with attributes

• 1st Electrical Attribute Schema released

2009 • Electrical Attribute Schema 2.0 released – expands to over 2400 product categories

Product attributes are a key ingredient to every distributor web store, but like ingredients for a cake, it’s the chef that determines what comes out of the oven.

Web Store Recipe 1 - Product Hierarchy 1 - Attributed Product Data 1 - Complete set of Images Carefully blend the products and data into the hierarchy. Add images and full-featured shopping cart functionality. Combine with full support from Sales, Marketing, and Logistics for best results.
