Key Learnings
1. Ceramics Implants are different than Titanium ones
a. Circonia Design must be different to titanium. -> Different Geometries are required.
b. Circonia Surfaces should not be acid etched, but Laser Modfied-> This can weaken the implant material and lead to breakages
c. «Ceramic on Ceramic» Connections of implant / abutment must be specifically designed for the specific material properties.
a. Careful evalutation of results is necessary; a long learning curve helpsa. Z-Systems has more than 25 000 Implants placed
b. The latest generation Evo Rapide (Z5m) has been placed more than 3000 cases, with a CSR (=compound survival rate of > 98%)

Why circonia?
Circonia is highly biocompatible.Compared to titanium it is naturally white, harder, immunologically (LLT- test) preferrable. There is also a reduced level of plaque (biofilm) building and therefore it limits the related risks of peri-implantitis, cardio- vascular deseases and strokes.

The big questions of zirkonia
For the use in dental implants, the following questions had to be resolved1. Successful Osseointegration

3. Prosthetic Treatment
Z-Systems systematically addressed these questions in the last 10 years. The results for Z-Systems Zirkolith® dental implants are excellent:
1. Osseointegration with CSR (compound implant survival rate) of >99%, at least on par with the leading Ti dental implants.
2. Excellent mechanical properties, making it safe and facilitating early loading- Safe comfort zone in the breakage stability
(>500 N) even after 2 Mio cycles (angulated, in saline - wet environment)significantly higher than max chew strength (~290N)
- can nserted with very high torque values of up to 70 N for high primary stability
3.
