Moleboheng Chaha SEBOKENG. - A nine-year-old boy’s life hangs in the balance after he apparently suffered a brutal assault from two ‘nyaope’ smokers who beat him up for a R10 note. The ‘nyaope boys’ were allegedly short of money for their next fix. The young boy had been sent by his grandmother to go and buy a loaf of bread at the Usave Shoprite store in Zone 11. On his way he met the two boys who took the money from him and then beat him up. Angry Zone 11 residents went in search of the perpetrators after they were alerted by the family about how badly the young boy had been assaulted. The family apparently spent the night at the Levai Mbatha Clinic in Evaton where they found medical help for the young boy who according to a family mem- ber, was urinating blood. A search started at the Zone 11 Stadium, which is known to be a common hangout for ‘nyaope’ users and spread out around the area in a hunt for the suspects. The first boy was caught and heavily disciplined by angry community members. They demanded to know the whereabouts of his accomplice. Community mem- bers say: “Nyaope smokers are a big problem for us. Week in and week out something goes missing from our yards. This is something we have to deal with. At the moment we don’t have taps and now they almost took a young boy’s life,” Se- bokeng Police arrived on the scene and took the boy into custody. They also advi- sed that the mother of the victim open a case on behalf of the victim as he is a mi- nor. Warrant officer Mzimkhulu Mthim- khulu confirms that a suspect was taken in- to custody and that a case of assault is be- ing investigated against him. * Nyaope is said to be a mixture of Anti Retrovirals, Rattex and Cocaine which drug users use to get high. Prof Isma & Mama SarahEnemies Came To Confess to Me

After many years of unhappy marriage, living in pain everyday. Pastors were praying for me but no difference.

Another day I heard from Radio & in newspapers that there is a professor, who helped my friend’s son, he was addicted to drugs,

I started to attend to him, he checks by using water in a bowl and mirror.

After only one week my enemies came to me to confess, is when I saw my husband’s girlfriend in the mirror.

I can thank the professor by telling people about his good job. Thank you Health Problems - Financial Crisis or Bad Luck

SEBOKENG.- Maria Dlamini, a 33-year-old woman, has come to face the toughestdays of her life following her parents’ de-ath.

Her family home in Zone 3, Sebokeng, was apparently sold at an auction withouther knowledge.

Following her parents’ death Dlaminihad to take care of her siblings but nowshe faces life on the streets.

An estate agent apparently just showedup and told her that she needs to move outas the house has new owners. Accordingto the agent, Dlamini’s father had taken aloan with a bank decades ago which is alle-ged to have leveraged with the house.

“There are no records of the loan and

the bank that took over the loan that theagent says my father owed. How did ourhouse get on an auction without the re-cords of the loan?” says the furious andfrustrated Dlamini.

Dlamini and her siblings have sincebeen kicked out.

When Sedibeng Ster visited the housethere was furniture inside and renovati-ons were taking place.

Efforts to get comment from the estateagent were futile.

“There is no way that these childrenwill lose their family home like this. Weneed proof and all the necessary docu-ments about this house and the loan thatthey are talking about,” says MajwalaneMohapi a member of the community.

Apparently Dlamini tried to get the lo-cal councillor to help without any suc-cess. “We need help! Please!

As we speak the water bills are alrea-dy in the supposed new owners’ name. Please help us! Where will we go?” asksa distrught Dlamini.

Mbongo has a condition called‘Urethri Strictur’ which causeshim to be wheelchair-bound. “Iwas unable to urinate for two orthree days so I decided to visit mydoctor. To my surprise it was aserious condition.

I think they said my urine pi-pes were blocked (Urethri Stric-tur),” explains Mbongo with an-ger on his face.

Mbongo was then admittedand scheduled for an operation inKroonstad.

After the operation he wastransferred to Bloemfontein Hos-pital where they declared that thefirst operation had been faultyand should not have been done.

“I was taken back to Kroonstadfor a second operation due to a‘supripubic catheter’ that had co-me out. I had no idea what washappening but never thought itcould be this bad. Ever since, Ihave not made any contact withthe ground. I was given a wheel-chair,” says Mbongo, knockinghis head on the doorframe in frus-tration.

Another 5 operations left himeven more helpless.

‘Ha re lekane rese meno,’ this is a Sothoidiom that is mostly used when onewants to say in a simple way that we arenot equals. Not in age, not in health noreven in wealth.During the same time last year I was

bombarded with calls of people askingme and the team to attend their functionsthat they have organised for ‘goodwill,’all in the name of the 67minutes. I turnedmost of them down, as most if not allwere publicity stunts or for self-promoti-on. This past week I discovered that themore things change, the more they staythe same. This year was no different -with calls coming in left, right and cen-tre, all from people who wanted to ‘dosomething’ for the needy. Perhaps youhave been successful in life but each andevery day some of us discover that thereare more and more people that are in direstraits and need help. The sad reality isthat you did them no favour to come upwith donations for only 67 minutes in ayear. In the last couple of days I had a shoc-

king revelation: The very same peoplethat were making these ‘generous’ dona-tions were talking about the people thatthey were donating to, as if they weresome kind of project or a duty that nee-ded to be ticked off the list. These ‘gene-rous’ organisations chatted about themas if they were filthy beings that neededpity - well for 67 minutes at least. The67 minutes day is over and I know thatmost of you have already forgotten aboutthe people you ‘helped’ by shoving a to-wel or a tin of food in their hands whileforging a smile for the camera. Take timeto think, reflect and decide that the chan-ge that you wanted to make last weekshould be done daily and not for you, yo-ur company or whoever, but for those inreal need. I have learned never to pretendin life but to do things as they should bedone and I believe all human beings needto do that. So for once, go out and givewith love, not only for 67 minutes butfor 365 days a year.I propose to discuss this no further but

to remind you that ‘Ha re lekane reseme-no,’ so do unto others as you would wishthem to do unto you, not only in 67minu-tes but throughout your life.Lerato...

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Current blood stockis at a critical level, says Vanessa Raju of theSA National Blood Services (SANBS). TheSANBS urges members of the public to makeevery day Mandela Day by becoming regularblood donors. “Your blood is vital in helpingto change the lives of those who are depend-ent on blood transfusions for their survival,”says Raju. He adds that they are experiencing‘low harvests’ due to school and universityholidays as well as the cold weather condi-tions. As the country geared up to do some-thing to make a difference in the lives of oth-ers onMandela Day, July 18, SANBS encour-aged the public to get involved in donating

blood. Collection dropped drastically recent-ly, resulting in a daily average of about 1.7days of blood supply being available. This is far less than the 5 day stock required

to ensure that the country’s demand for safeblood is met. SANBS needs to collect 3000units a day to meet the demand. This charita-ble act can save up to three lives and the dif-ference could be made every 56 days insteadof just once per year, said Raju. The standardsrequired to be a donor is to be aged between16 and 65, to weigh more than 50kg, be ingood health and live a sexually safe lifestyle. To find out more about the nearest donor cen-tre, call 0800 11 9031. official inauguration sasol gas engine power plant

South Africa’s first gas-fired power plant fully operationalSasol inaugurated the gas engine power plant at its Sasolburg site on 10 July 2013. The facility, known as the Sasol Gas Engine Power Plant, or SGEPP, is the largest power plant, using gas engines, ever installed in South Africa and has an operating capacity of 140 megawatts (MW).

The investment is also the largest single investment in gas engine

technology in Africa. The facility has consistently been producing

above its operating capacity, at 152 MW, since commissioning in

December 2012.

“This plant is a significant milestone for Sasol, as we begin to ease our

load on the national grid and contribute to our own energy efficiency

targets. We are proud of this new facility and it demonstrates how

we can add versatility to natural gas,” said Lean Strauss, Senior Group

Executive, International Energy, New Business Development and

Technology.

The project will enable Sasol to eventually reduce its CO2 emissions

by a further one million tons per year. This project has allowed Sasol

to achieve its target of reaching 60% self-generated power capacity in

2013, easing its reliance on the national grid.

The power plant was completed three months ahead of schedule and

almost 20% below budget. Although 500 jobs were created during

construction, the new facility brought 44 permanent jobs to Sasolburg.

“This is a very successful project for Sasol New Energy, below budget

and ahead of schedule. Indeed an excellent result from Wärtsilä,

Foster Wheeler, Sasol Technology and all other contractors,” said Henri

Loubser, Managing Director, Sasol New Energy.

Gas powered plants require less time to build and install, taking

between 20 to 30 months, opposed to the 40 to 50 months required

for a coal power plant and 60 to 80 months for a nuclear plant.

Sasol and its partner, the Mozambican state-owned power utility,

Electricidade de Moçambique, approved investment in a similar power

generation facility in Ressano Garcia, Mozambique. The project aims

to start electricity generation in the second quarter of calendar year

2014.

The main supply of natural gas for the plant comes from the Central

Processing Facility at Temane in Mozambique, which is part of

a Petroleum Production Agreement signed between Sasol, ENH,

Companhia Moçambicana de Hidrocarbonetos S.A. (CMH) and IFC.

sasol employees contribute their 67 minutes to mandela day18 July 2013 marked the 95th birthday of Nelson Mandela and the fourth Nelson Mandela International Day. Sasol employees joined the rest of the world and contributed their time towards people in need.

Over the years Sasol has been taking part in the global movement of

Mandela day to give recognition and to give back to our Metsimaholo

communities. Nelson Mandela International Day aims to inspire a

ripple of good deeds throughout the world and looks to encourage

individuals, communities, governments and non-profit organisations

to take one small step towards the larger leap of making a positive

impact.

Sasol chose Tsatsi Primary School in Zamdela and Môredou Old Age

Home in Sasolburg where employees went to spend their 67 minutes

towards making a difference in our community. The Sasol volunteers

didn’t mind getting a bit of paint on their hands as they painted

palisades and buildings at the two venues.

But it wasn’t all work. Learners at Tsatsi Primary received party packs,

while the residents of Môredou were treated to a delicious potjiekos

meal. Sasol employees painting the palisades at Môredou Old Age Home in Sasolburg. The palisades fence was recently donated to the old age home to improve security.

Interested in a Career in Biodiversity/Ecosystem management?GroenSebenza (Jobs Fund) Programme (an extended internship programme)

SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL BIODIVERSITY INSTITUTE

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) leads and coordinates research, andmonitors and reports on the state of biodiversity in South Africa. The institute provides knowledge and information, gives planning and policy advice and pilots best-practice management models in partnership with stakeholders. SANBI engages in ecosystem restoration and rehabilitation, leads the human capital development strategy of the sector and manages the National BotanicalGardens as ‘windows’ to South Africa’s biodiversity for enjoyment and education.

What is this programme about?

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) has embarked on a major Job creation pilot programme, the GroenSebenza or Jobs Fund Project, aimed at developing priority skills in the biodiversity sector to create sustainable job opportunities to 800 unemployed youth targeting young graduates and school leavers that matriculated. The pilot is a partnership-based programme with 33 partner organisations (from all tiers of government, NGO and private sectors) participating. The Human capital development strategy for the Biodiversity sector indicates South Africa has a shortage of skills to manage its biodiversity, as well as historical inequalities in the sector. The programme has been initiated to respond to a demand in the sector identified by the various research efforts conducted in the sector.

What does this Internship opportunity entail?

The programme is based on an “incubator model” giving 800 unemployed youth the opportunity to gain meaningful workplace experience through a structured mentoring programme, together with skills development and training opportunities for a period of 2.5 years. The programme will target 500 graduates and 300 school leavers (matriculants) and ‘incubants’ will be placed with the 33 partner organisations for the duration of the project. Midvaal Local Municipality will be hosting 3 Environmental and 2 Biodiversity incumbents for this project.

How do I qualify for this placement opportunity?

The programme will target unemployed youth from previously disadvantaged backgrounds with a bias towards youth from rural areas.

Candidates should ideally have:

o For the Graduate placement: a national diploma or first B-degree. o For the School leaver placement: a national matriculation certificate. o SA citizenship. o A demonstrated and clearly articulated commitment to the environment. o A commitment to a career development in the environmental sector. o Good leadership potential.

How to apply?

To submit an expression of interest in the SANBI - GroenSebenza Placement Programme, please complete the appropriate application form and attach the following documentation to complete your submission:

• A certified copy of your ID • An abridged CV of no more than 3 pages.

Application needs to be done with the participating organisations or government departments as stated above. A link to organisation websites can be found on the SANBI website: www.sanbi.org. The application form and job specifications can be found on the websites of the participating organisations.

The programme officers a stipend of R7,100.00 to graduates and R4,500.00 to school-leavers (matriculants) per month. Successful candidates will commit to a contract of 2.5 years with their host employer.

Closing date: Expressions of interest must be submitted by 16h00 on Friday, 26 July 2013.

Applications can be posted to: Midvaal Local Municipality’s human resources Department, p.O. Box 9, Meyerton, 1961 or hand delivered to Cnr. Of Junius and Mitchel street, Meyerton, 1960. Applications can also be e-mailed to [email protected] or faxed to (016) 360 7530. For any enquiries please contact (016) 360 7478.
