HISTORY OF THE RUGBY CLUBBond University Rugby is a member of the Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) and is the only Gold Coast based club competing in the Queensland Premier Rugby competition.

Bond Rugby fielded a team in the Gold Coast Districts local competition from 1994. By 2013 the Breakers had fallen on hard times and were in need of a home base. Bond University partnered with the Gold Coast Breakers formed in 1997, to provide a pathway for Gold Coast based players to compete at the highest level of club competition in Queensland without having to relocate to Brisbane.

The Bond University Rugby Pathway program is a development program aimed to introduce players to the on field / off field standards and training habits required to compete at the elite levels of rugby. The program is designed for rugby players aged 15 – 18 years, from Queensland’s Gold Coast and Far North Coast region of New South Wales.

The program’s goal is to better prepare players for junior representative honours and ultimately compete in premier rugby, AON Women’s University 7s and beyond.

The program is an inclusive program and open to players from state high schools, junior rugby clubs, APS schools, The Southport School and players from the Far North Coast of New South Wales. The program operates for 10 months of the year, through off season, pre-season and in season, with an emphasis on strength, conditioning and skills development, depending on the time of the year.
