along the present Canadian border to the Lake of the Woods, down the Mississippi. River to the 31st parallel, east to the Chattahoqcbie, down that river to the mouth of the Flint, east' to the source of the St. Mary's, down that river to the ocean. Territory west of the Alleghenies was claimed by various States, but was eventually all ceded to the Nation. Thus, the major part of Alabama was acquired by the Treaty of Paris, but the lower portion from Spain in 1813. . -
