About TACA
Mission Statement
TACA supports excellence and impact in the
arts through grant-making, capacity building
and thought leadership.
Vision Statement
TACA envisions and innovative, inclusive,
sustainable cultural sector recognized for its
essential contribution to a vibrant, prosperous
community.4
For 50 years, TACA – The Arts Community Alliance – has worked to establish North Texas’ cultural community as one of the strongest in the
nation.
TACA – The Arts Community AllianceA Brief History
Our growing investment in the arts translates to new premieres and productions, impactful residencies and community initiatives, and more opportunities for artists and audiences to connect – all making
Dallas a great place to live and work.
1967 Founded as an annual charity event benefitting the Dallas Theater Center
Today A valued arts funding and service organization, providing an array of grant funds
and innovative service programs

TACA believes in the transformative power of the arts.
Whether it’s examining personal challenges or celebrating community diversity, art is a powerful agent of change.
But being a nonprofit arts organization is challenging.
Limited funding, rising costs and a lack of access to other important resources makes it difficult to survive and thrive.
TACA exists to nurture these organizations
and provide visionary, responsive leadership to the arts community.
By providing flexible funding and much-needed resources, like professional development workshops,
TACA allows arts organizations to spend less time on keeping their doors open
and more time on running strong and effective programs that transform lives through the arts.

Arts General Operating Grants
TACA’s largest, cornerstone granting program. We were founded on this in 1967.
New Works Fund
Launched in 2012 and supported solely by Donna Wilhelm until 2018.
Artist Residency Fund
Launched in 2015 and supported by the Bowdon Family Foundation
(also formerly supported by the Embrey Family Foundation in 2015 and 2016).

TACA’s Arts General Operating Process is a 10-month process.
Recipients of Arts General Operating Grant support are then
eligible to apply for TACA’s New Works and Artist Residency Funds.

Unrestricted, general operating support
for nonprofits is invaluable.
It allows them to focus less on keeping the lights on and more about creating artistic work.

Arts General Operating Grants
Important Numbers & Unique Value
In TACA’s process, volunteers actually go see the work, live and in-person. They anonymously attend
performances and visit museums to have the experience that every patron has. Most arts grant-makers
across the country don’t do this anymore – not even the National Endowment for the Arts. While
they think it is valuable, they find it too time intensive. TACA believes that artistic work has to be
experienced live and in-person and can’t be captured accurately in narrative or video samples
submitted through an application.
In 2017, 48 TACA volunteer Grant Panelists spent more than…
3,000 hours viewing performances and reviewing applications and
$20,000 on tickets (they buy their own tickets).

Important Numbers & Unique Value
TACA Perforum also serves as an opportunity for TACA to listen, identify, and
address needs in the North Texas arts community.
The New Works Fund, North Texas Cultural Co-op, Artist Residency Fund, and
the TACA Perforum: Amplifier Workshops are programs that have been launched
to meet needs identified through TACA Perforum.
2018 marks the 10th TACA Perforum Symposium.
24
The TACA Perforum: Amplifier Workshops emerged out of an expressed need for more tactical training opportunities related to TACA Perforum’s “big picture” conversations. Each year, the
TACA Perforum Committee and TACA staff curate a series of 5-7 workshops for local arts leaders.
As part of our most recent strategic plan, the 2018 workshops series will include a 3-part series on collaboration, which will
reinforce conversations at TACA Perforum in 2017, which focused on cross-sector collaboration.

Important Information & Unique Value
The TACA360° program capitalizes TACA’s unique position in the community and harnesses the power of the arts to help employees solve a critical problem – millennial employee retention.
For TACA, this program represents one of our FIRST EVER earned revenue streams.
Additionally, support for this program comes from the human resource budget of participating companies, NOT the philanthropic budget – making it a corporate revenue stream that is non-competitive with TACA Grant Recipients.

Former City of Dallas Mayor and arts advocate, Annette Strauss, introduced the TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon in 1979. She believed that the arts are transformational –the values of individuals and cultures of communities are
shaped through the arts.
In addition to serving as Mayor of the City of Dallas from 1987-1991, Annette also served as both President and
Chairman for TACA.
Since its inception, TACA has honored 78 champions of our arts’ community including Annette who received the
