Albert Paley oversees the inking of cardboard stencils being utilized to establish shapes in a evolving group of monoprints that will be the focus of his print studio residency. On the wall are the first 2 in the series. A total of 48 prints would be pulled by Paley and his assistants during the 5 day period.

Problems adjusting ink viscosity

and getting a good overall print impression that

is able to create a mature range of values,

smoothness of color, and sharpness of line and shape -

limit progress and will not begin to be

resolved until the following day

The plexiglass monoprint plates are reduced two inches all around to 28 x 38 inches which improves the quality of the print impression. The addition of linseed oil improves the working viscosity of the ink, however, too much of the color is being absorbed by the cardboard stencils; the impressions still lack a certain richness…

…part of the early afternoon is spent shopping for alternative materials to use for the stencils; the selection includes a variety of decorative thin hard plastic sheets and “for sale” signs.
