01:37 - "ONCE UPON A TIME" PROGRAMME
INTRO
(voice-over)
One day, I was sick, at home, and saw my cat playing with a thread reel. That's when I asked myself:
"Why don't animals drive?"
I know! The cheetah doesn't drive, because it's always speeding.
(skidding sound)
And the slow turtle, because it jams motorways.
(traffic and horn sounds)
The firefly doesn't drive, because it doesn't have a reflective vest.
(horn sound)
And the sloth, because it falls asleep behind the wheel.
(snoring sound)
The giraffe doesn't drive, because it's too tall.
(xylophone sound in crescendo)
And the parrot, because it's always on the phone. Bla, bla bla, bla bla bla bla bla bla!
The shark doesn't drive, because it hates the seat belt and getting stuck in it.
(seat belt sound)
And the turkey, because it drank and got drunk.
The bull doesn't drive, because it gets mad at the red light.
(bull sound)
And the mole, because it goes into tunnels with no headlights.
The octopus doesn't drive, because it gets distracted while doing eight things at the same time.
And the crab, because it loves to drive in reverse.
The elephant doesn't drive, because it's heavy and has a big snout.
And the kangaroo, because there's no safety seat for the kids.
The snake doesn't drive, because it zigzags down the road.
And the mouse? The mouse, because it eats cheese and forgets about the rules.
(mouse sound - "Rules? Rules? Ahhh, I don't remember...")
The gorilla doesn't drive, because it´s always monkeying around.
And the dinosaur, why doesn't it drive? That one's easy! Duhhh, because it's extinct!
(end of story)

Host 1 (Filipa) - All children have rights and deserve to be respected, right, Andreia?
Host 2 (Andreia) - They do, indeed. And it's important that everyone pays attention to these issues.
Despite being young, children have lots of important stuff to say.
ZIG ZAG RADIO - LET YOUR EARS ZIG ZAG WITH US!

04:01 - "KIDS RIGHTS" PROGRAMME
INTRO
(intro voice-over)
Children have rights and they must be respected!
(child voice-over)
No to race, colour, sex, language, religion, nationality and social or economic status
discrimination.
Every child has the right to have a name and a nationality. They have the right of citizenship in a
country.
In the future, if all children's rights are complied with, we might live in society as good adults and
contribute for other children to also live happily. Thank you!
PRESENTATION 5
Host 1 (Filipa) - That’s true. Are you there and are you having fun, zigzagger? Cool. So stay there,
because we'll keep you company, and in a while we'll talk about plants, is that it?
(Andreia pretends she is smelling something)
Host 2 (Andreia) - I can smell it already! I can smell it already! I smell something. What could it be?
Well, it looks like we'll talk about a fig tree. I like figs very much, what about you?
Host 1 (Filipa) - I love it, I love it! It's one of my favourite fruits.
Host 2 (Andreia) - I think this one is a strangler. Let's understand why.
05:00 - "BOTANICAL GARDEN" PROGRAMME
INTRO (The world of plants is... in the Botanical Gardeeeen!)
(voice-over)
Hello, my name is Raquel Barata and I'm a biologist, more specifically a botanist, because I study
plants. Tell me, do you know the Moreton Bay fig tree?
What if I said the fig tree strang... No, I'm not spoiling the end.
This tree I'm talking about grows really fast and takes a lot of space in the garden.
(sound effect: space sound)
Its aerial roots grow until they reach the ground and become trunks that support very large
branches.
(sound effect: tree branches)
Actually, this species is indigenous to a tropical rainforest, where usually there's no space available
for new plants. So, what happens is that the growth of these aerial roots is a fantastic competition
trick. Do you know which one it is?
The figs are carried by birds, who eat them, to other tree tops. These figs' seeds manage to sprout
there and begin to form leaves and aerial roots. These roots start growing too fast and wrap around
the host tree, until they strangle it completely.
Afterwards, once they reach the ground, they take their place in the Tropical Rainforest, exactly
where the other tree was. This is why this massive tree is also called a Strangler Fig tree.
You can see it in Lisbon's Botanical Garden or in the Tropical Botanical Garden.
JINGLE
It's awesome. It's awesome!

Host 1 (Filipa) - Let's listen to an HMB song, so that you can shake those bones. Are you ready?
Host 2 (Andreia) - Let’s do it!
SONG: HMB - Não me leves a mal (written by HMB; record label Sony Music)
(lyrics) It's impossible to forget
What's yet to come
It's impossible to hide
What I bring inside
As the day gets hotter
I'm carried away
Nothing bothers me
Everything satisfies!
And those who don't mean well, enough!
Enough, get out, out, out!
Enough, don’t get me wrong
But you’ll not ruin
What’s good for me
Don’t get me wrong, no
Don’t get me wrong, no
But you’ll not ruin
What’s good for me!

land? It was in Portugal. A hero capable of bringing down enemy forces? Seriously, go catch some
air. Keep talking but tell things how they happened.

INTRO
(child)
Can anyone become a superhero?
(voice-over)
Well, all the super-heroes you know from films and cartoons don't respect the laws of physics at all.
(sound of Superman I film)
- Superman?
- That´s
me.(voice-over)
Physics studies a lot of things, such as, for example, forces and movements. Why do objects fall when
you drop them, or rise from the ground and fly?
(skidding
sound)
(voice-over)
Super-heroes’ special powers are inspired on other living beings’ abilities, whose body has adapted
to flying or jumping heights bigger than their own size. For example, Superman flies but, in order to
fly, he would need wings, so the air could support him while moving really fast.
(sound of Superman I film)
- Superman was here!
(voice-over)
And why does he use his underpants over his trousers? Well, that's not physics, but it's a mystery,
alright.
(sound of Batman, the Dark Knight film)
- No, I don´t wanna hurt you.

ZIG ZAG RADIO - LET YOUR EARS ZIG ZAG WITH US!

As for Batman, he would only be able to jump from high buildings and land on the ground
unscathed, with wings or a parachute. But we all are superheroes, when we invent something that
allows us to overcome our physical limitations. That's why we built airplanes, telescopes, space
ships, submarines, robots, that allow us to venture beyond our physical abilities.
(sound of Batman, the Dark Knight film)
However, on the other hand, have you ever imagined how hard it must be to prepare breakfast,
take you to school, work, help with your homework, play with you and read you a bedtime story?
Hummm, superheroes are real and they're called "mom" and "dad".

INTRO
(music playing really low: Janis Joplin - Mercedes Benz)
(voice-over)
Sorry, but can you raise the volume? I can't hear anything!
(music volume gets higher)
Ahh, now that's better!
Janis Lyn Joplin; I'm going to talk about her in today's Let's get loud!
Janis Joplin was an American singer and songwriter, born in Texas, in the United States of America, in
1943, and is considered the first big female rock star ever.
When she was in school, Janis used to entertain her friends by singing to them. While a teenager,
she was already a music artist, and also a painter, and that made her stand out from the other
children.
Life in school was not easy for Janis, but that didn't stop her from fighting for her dream: to live
for Music.
Janis Joplin died really young, at only 27 years old. There are some important musicians that died at
27 years old, and that's why there's a group called "The 27 Club".
Nirvana's front man, Kurt Cobain; The Doors' front man, Jim Morrison; Jimmi Hendrix, a great
guitarist; and Amy Winehouse, are some of the musicians who have died at the young age of 27.
Have you ever heard about them?
Janis Joplin's song I want to show you is called "Mercedes Benz". The lyrics are a critic to those who
believe happiness depends on money and material assets.
Janis Joplin never had a Mercedes, but she did have a very special Porsche. Generally, cars come in
the same colour throughout, right? Well, Janis Joplin's Porsche looked like a painting, because it had
mountains and trees painted on it, a blue sky with clouds and a bird flying, stars and planets. Look
for a photo of Janis Joplin's car, you'll love it.
(singing) Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?
That's how it begins. The original version of this song had only Janis Joplin's voice, but I'll show you
one with instruments playing, so that it's more exciting!
Let's hear Mercedes Benz, from Janis Joplin? So…
LET'S GET LOUD!

Host 2 (Andreia) - Sandy Gageiro will tell you all about it next, so you can shine over dinner while

27:06 - "THE WORLD EXPLAINED" PROGRAMME
INTRO
(voice-over)
Did you ever hear about volunteering or being a volunteer? It's a solidarity activity to contribute to
resolving problems that affect society in general, for example, helping sick people or people with less
possibilities, who live on the streets. President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has been talking about this
situation.
(voice of the President of the Republic)
There are thousands more then what we first thought, and in parts of the country we had never
imagined. For example, Santarém has a homeless people problem, in a scale we had never imagined.
(voice-over)
The environment, also helping animals, rehabilitating buildings... There's so much you can do. It's a
free choice, it must be made with joy without asking anything in return.
And you? Have you ever done volunteering in the Scouts, at school, your sports team or any
association?

30:17 - "BRAVE NATION" PROGRAMME
INTRO
(stadium sound, in a soccer game)
(voice-over)
Today, I'll open Brave Nation with a riddle: who was born in Madeira, came to the mainland very
young and scores amazing goals? Gooooaaal!!!
Well, of course it's Cristiano Ronaldo, the best soccer player in the world!
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February the 5th, 1985, in Madeira, and the first
soccer team he played in was Andorinha Football Club.
(swallow's funny sound)
At 12 years old, Ronaldo left is family and came to the mainland to play for Sporting. Do you know
where he lived? He lived in a house inside the Alvalade stadium. Lucky him, you must be thinking!
Well, in truth, Ronaldo felt alone because he was away from his mother and brothers, and that
motivated him to focus on his career, because his dream was to become the best player in the
world.
After Sporting, CR7 played for Manchester United, and he now plays for Real Madrid and he really,
really is the best soccer player in the world. Maybe even the best soccer player in the universe.
He's a brave player from our brave nation!

We should always turn off the tap when we're brushing our teeth. If we leave it on, we might waste

Hi, Elizabete!

Today, I'm going to talk about a dinosaur with a hard head.
(sound effect: pachycephalosaurs)
(voice-over)
No, it doesn't mean he was stubborn! It means this dinosaur had a thick and compact skull. It's
called pachycephalosaurs.
(character's voice)
What does it mean?
(voice-over)
It means "thick-headed lizard", a reference to the unique shape of its skull. They were herbivore
dinosaurs, feeding of plants, and biped, because they moved on two legs. They could measure up to
4 metres long, approximately. Their eyes were on the front of the skull, which gave them eyesight in
3 dimensions.
(character's voice)
I see you wearing glasses!

The instrument Joana is going to talk about is very different from the others. It doesn't have cords,
you can't blow it nor does it need a drumstick to play. If it's not connected to electricity, this
instrument won't emit any sound. Do you know what instrument I'm talking about?
(song: Kraftwerk - The Robots)
(voice over)
(song: Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene part 4)
The synthesiser is an electronic musical instrument, which emits a sound created by electric energy.
When it was invented, in 1957, the synthesiser was very big and couldn't be transported anywhere, it
could only be turned on inside a laboratory because it was too heavy to transport onto a stage.
ZIG ZAG RADIO - LET YOUR EARS ZIG ZAG WITH US!

(song: A-ha - Take on me)
(voice-over)
Through the years, this machine became smaller and easy to transport. Bands were able to take
them for concerts, the same way you take a guitar, drums or bass guitars.
Do you want to know how the people who invented the first synthesisers easy to transport are
called? Their names are a bit complicated, but here goes: Robert Moog and Herbert Deutsch. Robert
Moog and Herbert Deutsch! Have you ever heard about them?
(song: New Order - Blue Monday)
(voice-over)
Usually, synthesisers have the shape of a keyboard, but they can also have the shape of a violin, a
guitar, drums or wind instruments. Synthesisers are machines that mimic the sounds of other
instruments. They're copycats!
Nowadays, many bands use synthesisers on their music; songs you listen to every day. It's really true!
So, let's listen to a couple songs in which the bands chose to use a synthesiser.
(song: New Order - Blue Monday)
(song: Heróis do Mar - Paixão)
(song: MGMT - Kids)
(song: Depeche Mode - Just can’t get enough)
(voice-over)
As you can see, synthesisers mimic other instruments and allow the musicians to invent new sounds
and do crazy mixes! Now that you know so much about synthesisers, would you like to have one and
learn to play it?

Did you ever see those statues with knights riding horses? Usually, the horses are in different
positions.
If the horse has both front legs in the air, it means the person riding it, the knight, died in battle, in a
war.
If the horse has only one leg in the air, that person died due to war injuries. After the war, while in
bed.
If the horse is standing on all four legs, the person died of natural causes. Probably of sickness or
old age.
Now, never forget this and keep an eye for it next time you pass by a statue. Ah, and question
who's the knight, of course!

Huuummm.... I can't believe it! There are apples in the oven. The house smells so good, like apple

what's happening in my kitchen. He's nosy, tells him everything!
(child's voice)
X-ray!!!
(voice-over)
We can guess what's cooking just by smelling it. You know straight away if it's worth sneaking into the
kitchen to taste some cookies or if it's… steamed cauliflower day. We are able to guess what's happening around us just by smelling it, because we have our… olfactory sense.
(sound effect: nose sniffing)
We have five senses and one is olfaction. Tiny particulates come out of food or the soil, or from
animals or flowers, from people, and travel through the air into our nose. They blend in the mucosa
inside our nasal cavities and, in that moment, information is coded like a computer code and sent to
the brain. And the brain is awesome! It can distinguish thousands of thousands of thousands of
different smells.
Did you know there are people whose job is to differentiate aromas, and through scents, to gather
the most pleasant scents to create perfume? Some noses are fantastic!
However, the human being isn't the best "sniffer" in the world, it's not the animal with the best
olfaction. Dogs, for example, are admirable, they can track a scent across several kilometres!

How does the orangutan drink water?
(voice-over)
Hi, my name is Tiago Carrilho and I’m a biologist at the Zoo.
The Sumatran orangutans are animals that live in the same forest as the Sumatran tigers. They live
pretty high, approximately 25/30 metres high in the trees. And in those trees, the ficus elastica trees,
the water accumulates in the leaves.
What do they do? In order not to come down to the floor, because of the tigers, they squeeze the
leaves of the ficus elastica tree and are able to drink almost like they were doing it from a glass.

(Clemente)
- Uff, great! But, why did you call me here, doctor Horribledorf?
(Dr Horribledorf)
- I need you to go on a mission.
(Clemente)
- How so?
(Dr Horribledorf)
- I've been observing your powers. With a simple fart, you can evacuate a whole school. What
I want you to do is, get inside my teleportation machine and go to Beijing. To our rival
school, Chop Suey Villain Muchi.
(Clemente)
- And what do you need me to do, doctor?
(Dr Horribledorf)
- Take this green potion. It'll leave you calm and focused. Once you arrive at their school
yard, take this red potion, which not only increases the smell of your farts, but also makes
you invisible.
(Clemente)
- Right!
(Dr Horribledorf)
- As soon as the school is evacuated, go inside my arch-enemy's office, Miau Chai Tsung
Cokorama, and steal the blue box. Now, get in, my little one.

- Hum, I'm at the door. I'll have to get in by the sewer pipes.

He was at the door, but on the inside. Anyway.
(Clemente) - Ok, I’m already inside.

Invisible, he manages to enter the evil Miau Chai Tsung Cokorama's office.
(Clemente)
- How am I going to steal the box with him here?
(Miau Chai Tsung Cokorama)
- I can see you, shorty. Did you come to seal the blue box? Take it.
(Clemente)
- How can you see me?
(Miau Chai Tsung Cokorama)
- One of my several powers is to see invisible people. It was just a matter of time until
Horribledorf sent you to steal the blue box. You can take it. And you're welcome to this
school, whenever you want. Hurry up, the teleportation machine is running out of battery.
(sound effect: space sounds)
(Narrator)
Clemente is happy because the plan was easy to execute.
(Dr Horribledorf)
- Great job, young Clemente. Now, I have to leave my super, mega, fancy technological office
to open the box in the yard. Finally! The documents with the codes to rule the world!
(sound effect: space sounds)
(Dr Horribledorf)
- What? What is this? He switched the papers! These are just drawings of turnips and
tomatoes and courgettes, only vegetables! And he knows I can't look at vegetables, it affects
my power!
