Extra-Curricular Sporting Schools - AFL This term each class has had four sessions of AFL coaching. The children learnt ball skills, played cooperative games and were involved in physical activity. Thank you to Patrick and Tom our ‘coaches’ who displayed a great deal of
enthusiasm, knowledge and understanding. As a school we wish both coaches all the best with their personal futures.
Congratulations to the Netball Team Last Friday, the school netball team competed against many other schools in the Regional Netball Championships at Llanberris Netball Centre, Ballarat. The team did a great job and managed to win the ‘Mixed’ competition. Thank you to Katelyn Sutton for managing the team and to the many parents involved in transportation.
From the Principal’s Desk
Book Fair The ‘Book Fair’ not only encouraged a great deal of enthusiasm around books and reading last week, but the children also received visits from ‘Clifford the dog’ to further encourage all students to keep reading each night.
Student Reports
Over the past couple of weeks, staff have been collating data to write the mid-year student reports.
As the Principal, I get to see all of the reports and really enjoy reading about the learning journey that each student is on.
The reports highlight where each student is ‘at’ and also what the next level of learning is.
The teachers include some of the strategies they will be using to maximise learning and list some things that parents can do at home. The Junior Unit have included some of the strategies they use to decode unknown words when reading:
Stretchy Snake – Stretch the sounds out – str – et - ch
Lips the fish – Get your lips ready to make the sound
Skippy the kangaroo – leave the unknown word out and read to the end of the sentence to help identify it
Chunky Monkey – Look for the chunks that you know – eg – some – one = someone
As a school there will be Parent/Teacher/Student interviews in early August where further discussions on im-proving learning will occur.
