CENTRAL PARK

Central Park is a large park in the American city of New York, the state of the same name. It has an area of 3.4 km ² (341 hectares) and is located in the district of Manhattan. Central Park, which since 1962 is a National Historic Landmark, was designed by landscape designer and writer Frederick Law Olmsted and the English architect Calvert Vaux in 1858 after winning a competition. They also designed Brooklyn's Prospect Park.

Wildlife Conservation Society's Central Park Zoo and the Tisch Children's Zoo are located just a few blocks from 5th Avenue. It is possible to visit more than 130 different species of animals in different habitats, all carefully designed in order to recreate their natural environment.

Every year the Central Park offers a variety of shows that appeal to all its visitors. Among those who have already been presented are: Shakespeare in the Park, New York's Public Theater, with pieces like Romeo and Juliet, Dream of a Summer Night, which are held at Delacorte Theater. Every year the New York Philharmonic and the New York Opera performances held outdoors in the Great Lawn and happen every summer special shows from various artists such as Paul Simon, Elton John and Garth Brooks among others.

For those who are fans of sports practices, there are activities for those who enjoy: skateboarding, basketball, tennis, handball and softball, simply purchase the Discovery Day Pack at the North Meadow Recreation Center and to use all the sports equipment available in the park.

Between Fifty Avenue and Central Park South you find find carriages, and the tour lasts twenty (20) minutes and costs about $ 40.00 (forty dollars).

Bethesda terrace stays in the heart of Central Park fruit of original design Olmsted and Vaux. Be sure to suber Upper Terrace to enjoy a wonderful view of the region and the famous fountain "Angel of the Waters" - creation of sculptor Emma Stebbins (1873). It is located near 72nd Street, right in the middle of Central Park.

Belvedere Castle is located on top of Vista Rock (the second highest natural elevation existing in Central Park). The Belvedere Castle provides a panoramic view of the park in any direction. The castle was originally designed in 1865 by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould aiming to inspire all.

This area was established in 1981 and was financed by the widow of John Lennon, the no less famous Yoko Ono, in consideration of her husband's murder which took place in front of the Dakota building. The mosaic was created by Italian artists Yoko and annually donates $ 1 million to the Central Park Conservancy for its maintenance. Strawberry Fields is one of the most visited by tourists, and these often leave their tributes in the mosaic.

Bow Bridge is one of the most photographed bridges in Central Park and also has served as the location for numerous Hollywood movies. Its construction was completed in 1862 and was designed by Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould.

The Mall: Its project was also designed by Olmsted and Vaux, is located near Bethesda Terrace and the intention of its founders was to offer a very nice place for your visitors to have a chance to socialize. South of The Mall is the area known as Literary Walk where you can find numerous sculptures of famous characters such as Christopher Columbus, Ludwig van Beethoven, among others.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir is one of the favorite places of New Yorkers for walks and is always the target of discussions about future projects in the region including: the construction of a pier for fishing, a marina, restaurants, finally, many are arguing about their future, but the reservoir remains in its original format. Its construction started in 1858 and completed in 1862.

The Great Lawn is a huge lawn located near Turtle Pond and hosts many musical events. It's the Great Lawn that happens two free performances all summer the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. The duo Simon and Garfunkel, as well as Pope John Paul II has also performed in this part of Central Park. During the summer New Yorkers who are not owners of beach houses nearby New York is worth the Great Lawn as a huge playground, a natural refuge.
