1. Introduction
1.1 About this Software Release
The 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release is supplied on a DVD-R, which self-installs using
standard Microsoft installation procedures. The full software suite is usually loaded onto individual
PCs running Windows, with the license server and file loaded onto a networked Windows server.
The 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release is deployed as fix release no 8 on top of either AVEVA
PDMS 12.0.SP6.or AVEVA Hull & Outfitting 12.0.SP6. So it is a pre-requisite to first install 12.0.SP6
before applying the 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release. Any error corrections and minor
improvements delivered as part of previous hotfixes have been rolled up and are included into the
12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release. In addition to this the 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update
Release also includes a number of new features for the Schematics applications, which are
AVEVA Diagrams, AVEVA Schematic Model Manager and AVEVA Schematic 3D Integrator.
Please note that 12.0.SP6 onwards requires Flexman 5 and an appropriate license – it will not
work with Flexman 3 or 4. For further details of Flexman License Server releases, please see
http://support.aveva.com/support/United_Kingdom/Flexman/Flexman_Software_Profiles.htm.
1.2 About this Manual
This manual gives an overview of changes in the Schematic Model Applications since the
12.0.SP6 Service Pack. It is primarily aimed at users upgrading from that release. Users that
upgrade from previous releases will have to also refer the User Bulletins for 12.0.SP6 to obtain a
complete understanding of the full functional scope of this release.
1.3 Software Distribution & Installation
Please note that the installation process has been changed for 12.0.SP4 onwards. The installers
now use standard Microsoft Installer (MSI) technology, which facilitates silent installations through
standard MSI means. They are usually triggered by use of a setup.exe file.

1.4 AVEVA Schematic Model Products Portfolio
The AVEVA Schematic Model Product portfolio consists of the following products all based on the
AVEVA Design Platform and Dabacon database technologies. These are add-on applications to
12.0.SP6 as follows.
AVEVA Diagrams
Used for creating P&IDs, HVAC and Cable diagrams. It saves both
the diagram and the engineering objects in the Schematic Model
database.
AVEVA Schematic
Model Manager
Provides unrivalled features for the consolidation of all P&ID data
for a project, independently of the P&ID authoring tool.
AVEVA Schematic 3D
Integrator
Provides an integrated Schematic / 3D environment that allows
customers to build their 3D model in a controlled manner, directly
from the information on a P&ID, and enables consistency checks
between the Schematic model and the 3D model.
1.5 Operating Environment
1.5.1 PC hardware configuration
Please refer to the Minimum Systems Requirements Manual.
1.6 Upgrading from the 12.0.SP6 Release
The 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release is fully compatible with 12.0.SP6 data with the following
exception:
18/11/2010 6
Note!: The following settings files for AVEVA Diagrams will need to be manually upgraded:
DiagramsAttributePresentation.xml
DiagramsDefaultSettings.xml
The files that are included in the 12.0.SP6 delivery may contain additional settings that have been
added in this release. If these files will be manually overwritten with the previous files holding
application settings done by users, the new settings will no longer be visible in e.g. the Diagrams
Options dialogue.
Recommended procedure:
1. Back up the current versions of these files
2. Install the 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release
3. Merge the files by either copying and inserting new settings from the new files into the old
ones or by copying and applying user settings from the old files into the new ones. It is
recommended to use an XML merging tool for this task. One example of an XML merge
tool is XMLDiffMerge from IBM.

2. AVEVA Diagrams
Here follows a list of new enhancements included in the 12.0.SP6 Schematics Update Release
release. For more information refer to User Guide AVEVA Diagrams.
2.1 Flow Direction Enhancements
The available functionality has been enhanced with respect to Flow Direction as follows.
- Direction dependent components: With the 12.0.SP6 Update Release, it will now be
possible to add flow direction dependent components, for example to represent check
valves etc. The application will verify that these are inserted in the proper direction and
also automatically turn them around in cases where the flow direction is changed.
- Reverse Branch command: There is also a new Reverse Branch command, that will
reverse the flow direction of a selected branch
- Flow arrow symbol: A new flow arrow symbol type has been added. By using this, it is
now possible to place intelligent flow direction arrows at any point along a pipe
For More Information
See also User Guide AVEVA Diagrams / Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) / Flow
Direction.

2.2 Area Shapes
The new Area Shape function allows the assignment of attribute values to schematic items based
on their location in the diagram drawing. An area shape can for instance represent a room, a
package, a spec or any other entity.
By dropping a schematic item inside the border of the area, the attribute value associated with the
area shape will be applied to the schematic item. For example, the Location attribute of an
equipment item can receive a value of “202” when the item is dropped or moved into the area
representing room 202.
For More Information
See also User Guide AVEVA Diagrams / Working with Diagrams / Area Shape.
18/11/2010 9
2.3 Auto Formatting Rules
By using Auto Formatting Rules, it is possible to automatically assign various kinds of formatting to
shapes, based on rule-driven criteria. This feature can for instance be used for applying client
standard formatting, such as special line styles for insulated pipes, or different colours for different
mediums. Assignment of attribute values to the items can then trigger the automatic formatting
according to user specified rules.
For More Information
See also User Guide AVEVA Diagrams / Working with Diagrams / Main GUI Components / Auto
Formatting Rules.

2.4 Release Diagram Sheets to 3D and Performance of the SaveWork Command
A new function for releasing diagrams to 3D is now available. This function will allow users to
selectively create SVG viewer files and set release status for a diagram or sheet at a time.
Together with this function there is also a new option for Savework behaviour, whereby it is
possible to specify that SVG files should not be created on SaveWork and only by the Release
Diagram to 3D function. If this feature is enabled, then the performance of Savework can be
significantly improved, as the creation of SVG files may take some time to execute.
For More Information
See also User Guide AVEVA Diagrams / Working with Diagrams / File Handling / Save Work and
SVG Creation.
18/11/2010 11
2.5 Update of Multiple Diagrams
In cases where drawing standards may change during the cause of a project, there is now a new
possibility to apply changes to annotation formats and symbol appearance for a selection of
diagrams in one go. This has been added as a new “Update diagrams” button in the “Batch Job”
function. This also includes an option to refresh the drawings, in case updates have been done to
database data and these changes should be reflected in the diagram drawings.
For More Information
See also User Guide AVEVA Diagrams / Utilities / Batch Job / Batch Update.
18/11/2010 12
2.6 Save As with Copy of DB Data
In previous releases, the user would manually have to redefine the items on a diagram created by
the SaveAs function. A new possibility has now been introduced to get a copy of all related
database items when a diagram is created by the SaveAs function. An options dialogue provides a
possibility to affect how some special cases will be handled.
For More Information
See also User Guide AVEVA Diagrams / Working with Diagrams / File Handling / Save As with
Copy of Data.
18/11/2010 13
2.7 Session defaults
A new Default Attributes feature has been introduced for assigning default values to items created
during the program session. Values will be set for any items where the chosen attribute is
applicable.
Also, the previously available Default Groups and Default System functions have been combined
together with Session Defaults into a common dialogue. This dialogue is available from the
Session Defaults panel in the status bar at the bottom right hand corner of the application window.
