It’s time for us to update our photo directory. It has been five years, and babies have been born, children have grown, families have changed. Even pets are invited! Photo dates are currently Friday, September 28 and Saturday, September 29. If we get 50 families signed up we will add another day. So if you can’t make it on those two days see Denise. We really need YOU! To schedule your photo appointment online visit the church website and follow the link. Or sign up after church any Sunday until September 16. If you've done this before, you know the drill. If you haven't, here's how it works: You schedule your photo appointment. You come to the church on photo day, the whole family if possible, and have your portrait taken. That's all there is to it! We take the photos in the overflow section of the Sanctuary. You then go back to the Jordan Room to view the different poses and choose the one you want in the directory. There's also the opportunity to purchase photos if you wish. Why participate? Just for being photographed, you will receive a free 8x10 family photo plus a free directory. So don't miss it! And never fear, if you're not available on our photo dates you can have your photo taken at another church. We need a couple volunteers to help with appointments. If you can help see me. Thanks! lives touched by God and Christ with so many incredible volun-teers stepping up to be the light of Jesus Christ! In the coming weeks St Paul’s is offering many opportunities to renew your energy of faith! We kick off the church year with our Rally Day! Sunday worship. Our Bible studies starting at the end of the month with two online Bible studies for those of you unable to take time to come to church to

study God’s Word! September is also a month to invite peo-ple you know to church. On September 16 our worship service will feature a Christian Clown Ministry celebrating God’s love! On Friday September 21 it’s our Pot Luck Supper with Family Prom-ise and Candy Bingo! We will also have a table at West Deptford Day sharing the St. Paul’s story with our neighbors! October starts with a return of THE CHICKEN MAN so that is a definite day to invite friends to church. We will also be part of Boscov’s Community Day at the mall. On All Saints Day, Novem-ber 4th, something very spe-cial will be happening during our worship service that you won’t want to miss. Back to that tiger for a mo-ment. I heard him roar with majesty and eloquence. His roar captured everyone’s attention as we paused to see the beauty of a big cat res-cued from the world to a place of safety and joy. St. Paul’s is a silent tiger in many ways; we have been rescued by Jesus Christ but our joy-filled church is a roar away for others out in the world. To many people the words St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of West

My family went to the Popcorn Zoo in Lacey Township a few weeks ago. Its animals are loved with extraordinary care. That’s because, since 1977, the Popcorn Zoo’s mission is to rescue ani-mals and to serve as a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds. I just love the majesty of the big cats! A stroll through the zoo reminds you that there is both good and evil in this world with good prevailing at the Popcorn Zoo! Our world is filled with good and evil. Each of us faces days of challenge be-cause the world looms large in our faces threatening to diminish our con-nection to God’s directions for life. But a stroll through our church, a connec-tion with our activities, and time spent in worship shows that good can over-come the world’s abuse and evil here at St. Paul’s. Through our journey, at the same time we are receiving God’s love God is also calling us to make new disciples and to provide future generations with a strong faith foundation! Thinking about the future generation is one of my joys from this summer as I celebrate our Vacation Bible School; more than 100 children registered, a 25% increase over last year and 60% higher than in 2016. So many young

Deptford are just quiet words, but what’s needed is a roar of acclama-tion! I think it’s time we roared, don’t you? My challenge to you from last Sep-tember worked so I am going to issue a new challenge to all of us. In the coming nine months, I would like to see our Sunday morning worship at-tendance grow until we have at least 130 people in our pews each week. Frankly, if all of the parents of all of the children who attended Vacation Bible School last month attended St. Paul’s regularly we’d be over that number. So many of you invited children to Vacation Bible School and we set a new record for Vacation Bible School attendance. Truly a great job of invi-tation! Now, let’s think of our adult friends who are looking for a church home and invite them here, because I can’t think of a better place to wor-ship and praise God than St. Paul’s.

Blessings!

Pastor Dave

The due date for Conference forms will be Sunday, Sept. 23.

Why Should You Come? Besides being a celebration of our ministry, the annual church confer-

WORSHIP AT THE RIVER has concluded another successful season. We had good attendance, even with threat of thunder. Thanks to everyone that helped this year: PD, Charlie Taylor, Molly Hosier, Denise Hosier, Rich Favretto and substitute pastor Rev. Onay Lopez of St. Paul’s Paulsboro.

St. Paul’s Weekly Bible Studies will be starting at the end of September offer-ing everyone several interesting ways to explore God’s Word. Our perennial non-stop Bible Study on Thursday mornings at Shepherd’s Farm continues! Every Thursday except the first Thursday of the month, PD offers an hour Bible Study in the lunch room at Shepherd’s Farm that is open to eve-ryone. The study has been exploring the Bible using the music of faith. Our weekly BROWN BAG LUNCH BIBLE STUDY returns on Wednesday September 26. This year, Pastor Dave

will be offering a new option. On the third Wednesday of each month, he will be making a SOUP of the MONTH for the class to enjoy as part of their lunch. The Bible Study meets in Hick-man Hall and will start the year by using the art of the comics to discover God’s message in Scripture. This unique examination of Biblical themes will offer the class a lot to think about in their hour together. WEDNESDAY EVENINGS provide eve-ryone with the opportunity to join the class in person at St. Paul’s or to be part of the class online using ZOOM

conferencing. The one hour class is a great way to grow friendships while growing in faith. The first study of the year will be on ANGELS and class num-ber one is Wednesday evening Septem-ber 26. Our brand new Bible Study is open to all but specifically for those with sched-ules that don’t ever seem to have free time. It is our TUESDAY LUNCH TIME STUDY exclusively online via ZOOM conferencing that kicks off on Tuesday September 25. This half hour Bible Study can be joined using Smartphones, tablets, or computers. Schedule lunch at noon on Tuesdays and feed on God’s Word for a half hour. The study starts with MUSIC of our LIVES, which will examine music lyrics and God’s Word.

The Superheroes: Our week of Vacation Bible School was successful beyond our dreams! We hit our goal of 125 kids brought to Jesus for fun and learning. Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this a success, too many to

name! But especially Director Elaine Luoma and Craft/Decorations Leader Mary Ann Jones.
