PORQUEROLLES Porquerolles is the biggest of the Hyeres Islands, a small heavenly spot with beautiful shores, where nature is preserved by strict environmental laws and the only noises come from the cicadas, the wind and the sea. Along the mild northern coast, many beaches are found, characterized by white sand and pinasters overlooking the clear and turquoise sea.The southern part of the island is more irregular and wild, characterized by sea cliffs and bays that can be reached only walking through small paths.Porquerolles village, located on the northern coast, was grown close to the harbour and to the Place d’Armes, where the inhabitants play pétanque and the most favourite diversion is drinking a pastis in one the pleasant outdoor cafes.

TOULON Toulon is the major naval centre on France’s Mediterranean coast, popular for its large rade and the series of sheltered sandy beaches, very appreciated by tourists. The city centre reminds the vicissitudes of its ancient history, and is featured by a moltitude of architectural styles. The old town was grown around the Dome and is built in a typical Provencal style: coloured houses, narrow streets, small squares, many fountains and the market that takes place every morning which features local products. The upper town was built in the mid-19th century under Lous Napoleon, and is rich in monuments: the Toulon Opera, the train station, the Place de la Liberté, the Palais de Justice and many others.

LA CIOTAT The city became popular thanks to an episode: in its train station the Lumière brothers, in 1895, recorded the short film “L’Arrivée d’un Train en Gare de la Ciotat”. Black-and-white city but always up-to-date, right from entering the harbour, surrounded by typical colorful Provencal houses, the bistrots and the fishermen boats are clearly distinguishable. Getting off on the docks, you can enjoy a walk through narrow streets, restaurants, shops and small lively squares. The large rade is dominated by the massive rock called “Le Bec d’Aigle”, characterized by the eagle’s beak shape.

LES CALANQUES The Massif des Calanques is a wild and rugged terrain, not far from Marseille, one of France’s great natural beauty areas, comprising nine creeks made of white rocks, overlooking beautiful clear water. Protected since the 1970s, this 20km long area is practically not-accessible by cars and the walkable paths are quite challenging: the approach by boat is the best way to visit and spend a night under these marvellous cliffs,

MARSEILLE “The harbour was extraordinary in that spot. It sticked in one’s eyes. The docks. The cargos. The cranes. The ferries. The sea. The If Castle and the Frioul Islands in the distance. Everything was easy on the eyes.” (Solea). “This city will always and only be the last stopover of the world. Its future belongs to those who arrive. Never to those who leave.” (Chourmo).Jean Claude Izzo described Marseille along these lines, now it is up to you the pleasure of discovering it!
