December 19 th at 9 am: Unity & Peace Rally against SB 20 Washington Square Park 78 Broad Street, Charleston We will meet at Washington Square Park and walk over to the US District Courthouse (85 Broad Street, Charleston). It will allow law enforcement to investigate the immigration status of anyone they stop, which encourages racial profiling of Latinos and other nationalities that appear or sound “foreign.” Civil rights groups and immigration advocates filed a lawsuit against this law and a federal judge will hear it on December 19 th in the District Courthouse in Charleston, SC. SB 20 does not uphold American values of fairness and equality, and it criminalizes simple actions such as giving a neighbor a ride to church or opening your home to individuals in need.
