Options for Mass and the Eucharist Fr. Bob Miller
Once again, I want to thank everyone for being conscientious in following the facemask, social distancing and reservation requirements for all indoor Masses. These requirements are in place to keep you safe. We will be following them for the foreseeable future. It’s an act of sincere kindness to wear a face mask — thinking about the well-being of someone else besides myself. With the number of Covid-19 cases increasing locally, the number of people who are afraid to gather for Mass inside is growing. I respect your judgement in making your own decision according to your comfort level. We will continue to live stream the 5:00 pm Mass on Sunday and the 8:30 am Mass on weekdays (except Tuesday). The bishop has given dispensation so that watching the live stream Mass counts for your Sunday obligation. At the same time, I know those unable to gather also long to receive the Eucharist. On Wednesdays, after the 8:30 am Mass at St. Benedict and the 9:00 am Mass at St. Francis, we are offering the Eucharist in the parking lot. Also, beginning this weekend, we will be offering the Eucharist in the parking lot after the 5:00 pm Mass at St. Benedict. The idea is that you watch the live stream Mass and then drive over to the church at the end (or just before the end) of Mass to receive the Eucharist outside. In addition, we are celebrating the entire Mass itself in the parking lot at St. Benedict this weekend (July 12) at 10:00 am. As I write this, we are still working out the details. Watch the web page for details. But this announcement has generated a lot of interest from people who are afraid of gathering inside, which is exactly what we had hoped. No reservations are required for this Mass outside. We will be looking at how many people attend to determine if we want to have more Masses in the parking lot to satisfy people’s needs. Again, with the sacraments being the lifeblood of who we are as Catholics, we’re trying to get the sacraments to as many people as possible. Sacraments are not simply for the fittest or bravest people but for all of us, including those who are not able to gather at this time.

On Sunday, July 23, 1950, the Most Reverend John Francis Dearden, Bishop of Pittsburgh, dedicated St. Isaac Jogues Church. Come join us and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the dedication of St. Isaac Jogues Church at a special Mass at 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 18 i n the parking lot of St. Isaac Church. You can sit in the comfort of your car and watch the Mass while listening on your FM car radio. We hope to see you there.

Mass Schedule Changes Please note the changes to the Mass schedule. Thanks for your patience as we experiment and tweak online reservations, space capacities, and the Mass schedule (at least to start with) for our new parish. The weekday Mass schedule will be: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

Because we must limit the number of people who can be in the church, you will need to reserve a seat to attend the Mass. To do so you can to go to our website (www.john23.org/mass-reservation) . We will live stream the Saturday Vigil Mass at St. Benedict at 5:00 pm and the daily Mass at St. Benedict on our website: www.john23.org.
Online Mass Reservations Our online reservation system for all Masses (both weekday and weekend) has changed to Flocknote. Reservations through Flocknote will be easier to manage. Each week a sign up will be sent out via Flocknote. If you are not on Flocknote, the Mass sign up will also be available on the Mass Reservations page on our website: www.john23.org/mass-reservations. After you select the Mass you wish to attend, make sure that you change the number from 1 to the total number in your family that will be attending or you will not have enough seats reserved for everyone. You will no longer be asked to provide names for everyone attending so it is very important that we have the correct number of people attending. If you know someone who does not have Flocknote or does not have access to the Internet, go to our website link. This allows someone from outside our Flocknote system to make a reservation. If you are making a reservation for another person, you will enter their name and their phone number (It does not have to be cell phone). Thank you for your cooperation and prayers as we navigate this re-opening of our church buildings and return to worshiping together!
Private Prayer and Confessions The Narthex at St. Benedict will be open for private prayer on weekdays from 9:15 am to 4:30 pm. The Vestibule at St. Francis will be open for private prayer weekdays from 9:45 am to 2:00 pm.
Prayer List If you know of someone who has the Coronavirus or someone who is on the front line such as a health care worker, please go to our Prayer List form on our website and submit their name. We will print the list daily and place it on the altar as we celebrate daily Mass. The webpage address for the Prayer List Form is www.john23.org/prayer-list.
Outdoor Communion
On Wednesday after the 8:30 am Mass at St. Benedict and 9:00 am Mass at St. Francis, we will have an outdoor Communion Service for those who feel they cannot attend Mass. Starting this weekend, we will also have Outdoor Communion after the 5:00 pm Mass.
At St. Benedict, please come to the area below the bell tower. Please allow room for those at Mass to exit as you line up to receive Communion.
Confessions Saturday Confessions will be held at St. Benedict at 11:00 am. We will be located under pop-up tents between the Church and O’Brien Hall. Please line up down the long sidewalk between the buildings being careful to observe 6-ft. social distancing.

Fundraising for Flag Poles at St. Benedict Glen Mauder, a Life Scout in Troop 1313 at St. Benedict, will be collecting money to help finance his Eagle project after Masses on July 18 and 19. Glen’s project will be to replace the two flagpoles at St Benedict the Abbot with two new 30 foot commercial grade flagpoles. Currently, the flagpoles are in deplorable condition. One is leaning and the other is broken and is no longer able to display a flag. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
