Finance Minister ArunJaitley today said the 8 per centGDP growth can be achievednext fiscal on account ofimproved rural demand and bet-ter monsoon, even as he urgedthe Opposition parties not to"play games" in Parliamentwhen it comes to passage of billsto initiate key reforms.
Jaitley, who was speaking ata memorial lecture here, said,"Manufacturing has become flatbut started picking up... if wehave a better monsoon then ruraldemand will become higher
which will have some impact onmanufacturing, probably at thebeginning of the year. We antic-ipate that a growth of 8 per centis possible to achieve this year."
"Therefore, we will have totake steps to increase demand.And therefore the width of eco-nomic activity expands.
"It is extremely important forus to keep two factors in mind.One is to set the correct signalsdomestically and globally. (With)the roadmap which we haveembarked upon we are capable ofdoing it. So whenever in the nextsession, important legislationslike direct tax reforms, indirect tax
reforms, bankruptcy laws theycome up, they should see the lightof the day."
