S.A.T. 9 Vocabulary
imbroglio – A difficult or intricate situation; an entanglement. A confused or
complicated disagreement.
connoisseur – n. - A person with expert knowledge or training, esp. in the fine arts. A
person of informed and discriminating taste.
nirvana – n. - The state in which one has attained disinterested wisdom and compassion.
An ideal condition of rest, harmony or joy.
raconteur – n. - One who tells stories and anecdotes with skill and wit.
malaise – n. - A vague feeling of bodily discomfort. A general sense of
depression or unease.
juggernaut – n.- Something, such as a belief or institution, that elicits blind devotion or
sacrifice. An overwhelming, terrible, destructive force.
ambiance – n. -The special atmosphere or mood created by a
particular environment.
peccadillo – n. pl.- A small sin or fault
virtuoso – n. - A musician with masterly
ability, technique or personal style. A person
w/ masterly skill or technique, esp. in the
arts.
aficionado – n. pl. - An enthusiastic admirer or follower; a fan.
vignette – n. - A decorative design placed at the beginning or end of a book or chapter or along the border of a page.
