Instructional Delivery

Daily instruction focuses on student progress with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills

(TEKS) aligned instructional materials. During virtual learning, students may receive

instruction in the following ways (including, but not limited to):

Authentic student work/assignments with timely and relevant feedback for continued

progress in learning of the standard

Hands-on activities which may need an extra pair of at “home” hands

Choice boards and playlists

Instructional activities within Canvas

Portfolio tasks and turning in of assignments

Quick checks for learning

Video lessons created by Santa Fe ISD teachers

Project based learning/assignments

Student video creations

Discussion boards

Group/partner projects

Opportunities for interactions with teachers and learners in the class

In SFISD, instructional delivery is consistent in virtual (asynchronous and synchronous-live)

and in-class learning opportunities.

Student Progress Measures

Teachers will establish a clear system for tracking each student’s academic progress. Daily student engagement and measurements of growth for TEKS will be consistent in all learning environments.

Progress measurement or assessments of TEKS may include, but not limited to:

Quizzes

Standards-based assessments

Unit Based Assessments

Grading for all SFISD students in virtual learning will follow the same grading policy as the

face-to-face instruction model. According to TEA guidance, the grading policies for remote

instruction must be consistent with the District’s grading policies for on-campus

assignments.

Schedule

While in SFISD virtual learning, time management is critical to success. Students and

teachers must remain in communication regarding daily schedules and assignments. As

with any traditional course, there is a risk of receiving a lower grade if a student falls

behind. If your student is struggling with time management, then he or she should

contact his or her teacher for additional assistance.

Home and School Connection

Virtual learning requires strong partnerships with students, parents, and teachers.

Teachers will communicate with parents through email, phone conferences, videos, student

Canvas pages, virtual conferences through designated hours designated by each campus.

Classroom teachers and the district will ensure access to all resources and materials for

students working within the virtual learning environment. Access to additional trainings will

be provided for students and parents working in the virtual learning environment.

Wellness and Counselors

Counselors will be available for students during the school day via phone and virtual meeting platforms. Procedures are still being finalized for requesting to see a counselor at this time. If your student is in immediate need of services, please contact, their home campus for assistance or any of the help lines for support. Gulf Coast Center Crisis Hotline 1-800-595-0869 or the City of Santa Fe Resiliency Center 409-218-7129.

5

Intervention and Targeted Learning Opportunities

Intervention and enrichment time will be scheduled by the student’s teacher in order

meet their academic needs (SPED, 504, GT, ESL). During this time, students may engage

in assigned group activities, project learning activities, small group instruction, or on-

line resources.

For students who have IEPs, progress will be carefully monitored and ARD Committees

will convene and make appropriate recommendations to meet individual student needs to

ensure continued growth in the general education curriculum and on IEP goals and

objectives. ARD/IEP Committees will determine the unique needs of students who are

IEP-entitled in making support and service recommendations for students attending

school virtually.

For students who are learning the English Language, the learning management system,

Canvas, offers tools and resources to support each child. Materials and resources will

be used to meet the needs for each English Language Learner with listening, speaking,

reading, and writing for each class.

Technology

Students and families will have direct access

for help with technology. Parents and students

can request help in English or Spanish. SFISD

will provide each student with a laptop for

virtual learning. Student technology

distribution has been provided since June and

offered through the district’s Technology

Department on Wednesdays. The technology

distribution schedule is being updated to

provide multiple dates and time to

accommodate schedules. Information from

SFISD technology will be released on Friday,

July 31st, 2020. There is no need to purchase

any additional technology supplies or

equipment for virtual learners.

Technology help desk can be reached by email at [email protected]

Immediate support chat support can be access at https://www.sfisd.org/Page/3872

Help line can also be contacted at 409-925-9084.

More information is listed on the www.sfisd.org on the Technology Page.

Elementary All virtual learning will be designed to ensure that students continue learning at the pace of the current SFISD scope and sequence.

Synchronous learning requires all participants to be present at the same time, virtually

(e.g., live interactive classes with students and teachers).

Asynchronous learning does not require all participants to be virtually present at the

same time. Students earn daily attendance through daily engagement measures. The

approved engagement methods are listed below

Daily engagement

Daily progress in Canvas, Santa Fe ISDs learning management system (LMS)

Daily progress via teacher/student interactions (students who do not complete the

daily measure of engagement are to be counted absent for that day)

Completion/turn in of assignments from student to teacher (potentially via email,

online, or mail)

Schedules

Schedules for elementary students who are online learners will be structured to require

them to participate in real time (synchronous) and independent (asynchronous) learning

throughout the day. See below for grade level examples.
