Sant Gadge Baba Gram Swachta Abhiyan
Sant Gadge Baba Gram Swachta Abhiyan is an innovative experiment
based exclusively on community participation. Experiment aims to
eradicate unhealthy, ugly and embracing atmosphere by adopting
healthy practices at household and community level along with
developing facilities to make the life easy.
It also aims to reduce dependency on government and to develop
community institutions to shoulder responsibility. The high appreciation
across the state has made it successful. State has proud to say that
experiment brought unbelievable positive culture in the field of
community development

• To bring about an improvement in the general
quality of life in the rural areas.
• To create competition among villages for
betterment of village development .
• To create cleanness in house, village and
environment with help of people participation
• To develop the initiatives among peoples
regarding participatory rural development
• To eliminate open defecation to minimize risk of
contamination of drinking water sources and
food.

• Campaign launched in the name of socio
spiritual leaders Sant Gadgebaba and Sant
Tukdoji Maharaj.
• Most popular, respected personalities Mr.
Anna Hajare, Mr. Amitabh Bacchan and Ms.
Madhuri Dixit promoted the campaign and
helped in branding.
• No up front Financial Support Prize to
community - No individual recognition
• Sensitized through IEC and Exposure Visits.

Evaluation team of Zilla Parishad constituency level will check
all GPs under ZP constituency and do the gradation as follows;
• A- 60% and Above
• B- 50% to 59%
• C- 49% and below
Only ‘A’ grade GPs are eligible for the next level ‘B’ & ‘C’ grade GPs try for ‘A’ grade in next year

SPECIAL PRIZES
• Many villages/GPs excel in one of the activities related to sanitation – But fail to achieve overall performance . However, individual activities are
equally important and considering this - – Special prizes for such activities introduced since 2003
• Abasaheb Khedkar Award for outstanding work in family welfare • Vasantrao Naik Award for outstanding work in drinking water and waste
water management • Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Award for outstanding work in social integration
and community mobilization • Sane Guruji Award for best school • Sawitribai Phule Award for best Anganwadi
One Grampanchayat ( not selected for over all performance) for district, division and state each is selected for the prize in all category
Impact of Sant Gadge Baba Campaign
• This campaign has ignited the community spirit
• Large amount of voluntary labour mobilised by the
community
• Every year Rs 300 crores public facilities are created in
the state. (Study of UNICEF)
• Villages have better living conditions
• Local Self Government empowered
• The Governments’ faith increased in decentralization;
as a result the campaign launched for periurban & urban areas also.
Impact of Sant Gadge Baba Campaign
• Other State Governments launched similar
incentive schemes for water & sanitation sector
• Efforts are going on to take the campaign
approach to other flagship programmes.
• Large amount of voluntary labour mobilised by
the community
• Villages have better living conditions
• Local Self Governments empowered
