Sanjivani Connects
Vol. 1, Issue 1, April, June & July 2019
‘I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard and valued, when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.
-Dr. Brene Brown As quoted above, in this continuously transforming world, the need to stay connected is gaining
significance and therefore we couldn’t think of an apt name than ‘Sanjivani Connects’ for our school
newsletter, that connects the exuberant student community and the vibrant facilitators with the community
outside. Through every issue of our quarterly newsletter, we hope to stay connected with our readers by
keeping you affront with all the happenings at Sanjivani.
Dear Readers,
As, writing is the most valuable literary
expression, we are glad that our school supports
such a platform where our students and teachers
can share their ideas with others. Besides, our
school hosts a plethora of activities, and it is
necessary to communicate the purpose and need of
these.
Our team has enthusiastically documented the
many events and competitions and the carefully
organized monthly activities and present it to you
through our 'Sanjivani Connects'. We have
introduced two new sections 'Opinion Matters'
where are teachers connect with our readers by
expressing their opinion over a socially relevant
matter & the next one, ‘Student Diaries’, gives
our young writers a platform to showcase their
creative writing skills.
We would like to briefly thank
everyone, no matter how small the contribution,
for creation of this issue.
Finally, from the entire team of Sanjivani, we wish
all the readers a 'happy reading' and aspire to stay
'connected with each other through words and
thoughts'.
Thank you,
-Editorial Team
From the Principal’s desk...
Greetings from Sanjivani International School!
Parents are the cornerstone to help kids get a good
education. As parents, we must involve ourselves in
our child’s learning and be the best educational role
model. We should connect with what your child learns
in everyday life and make learning a part of your
child’s everyday experience, especially when it comes
out of your child’s natural questions. Have give – and -
take conversations, listening to your child’s ideas
instead of pouring information into their heads. Let
them ask questions, clear their doubts so that there is
no ambiguity. Build a healthy relation and don’t instill
fear in your child. Let them talk to you about anything
and everything under the sun, rather than getting
superfluous or incorrect information from other
sources. While imparting life skills, prepare them for
simple crisis situations too.
And lastly, inculcate the art of tolerance
in your child, after all we are not alone
on this planet.

OPINION MATTERS Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself
- John Dewey
India has its own rich history of education.
In ancient India the education system was
based on equality and was student- friendly.
As per the ability of the student, they could
choose their field of education, like the
Brahmans chose to master the scriptures,
niti, vigyan, ganit, astronomy, philosophy
etc, whereas Kshatriyas learnt warfare or
vocational training, Vaishyas learnt about
accountancy and business and shudras
obtained skill necessary for livelihood.
The India which was known for its rich
heritage, culture, mathematics, science and
education, somewhere started losing its hold
over to it. What prompted this to happen?
and since when? are questions which need to
be sought!
We need not go too deep into the past. Our
search ends with the beginning of the British
era. The British had introduced English
education system. Though the system had
some positive impact, it mostly created a
large number of clerks to work under the
British. Free India took a long time to come
out of this system realising that India was
losing its actual intellectual place in the
world. Rabindranath Tagore, Rajaram
Mohan Roy, Eshwar Chandra Vidyasagar
etc were few legendary educationist during
late British period who worked their way to
provide education for all and gave their
inputs for modern education, education for
life and education for all.
Still we had a dark period to face. It was
long before India could work on its own
Education Policy called ‘National Education
Policy’ The last National Education Policy
(NEP) was released in 1986 and modified in
1992.
In order to make changes and implement
new policy for primary, secondary & higher
education, a committee was set up to prepare
a draft of a new National Education Policy,
under the chairmanship of Dr
Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan.
The Draft National Education Policy, 2019
is built on the foundational pillars of Access,
Equity, Quality, Affordability and
Accountability. Some of the features of this
Policy are:
-Free and compulsory education from pre-
school to 12th
-A major reconfiguration of curricular and
pedagogical structure with Early Childhood
Care and Education (ECCE) as an integral
part of school education is proposed in the
policy which will definitely help to enhance
the standard of our education in the present
and future world.
-Extension of Right to Education Act 2009
to cover children of ages 3 to 18 which will
improve the curricular and pedagogical
structure based on cognitive and socio-
emotional developmental stages of children.
-No hard separation of learning areas in
terms of curricular, co-curricular or
extracurricular areas and all subjects,
including arts, music, crafts, sports, yoga,
community service, etc.
-It promotes active pedagogy that will focus
on the development of core capacities, and
life skills, including 21st-century skills.
In a nut shell, several new policy initiatives
for promoting the internationalization of
higher education, strengthening quality open
and distance learning, technology
integration at all levels of education, adult
and lifelong learning and initiatives to
enhance participation of underrepresented
groups, and eliminate gender, social
category and regional gaps in education as
proposed in the policy. If executed in an
organised way, it will surely achieve the
pinnacle of the world education standard, as
our country has enormous hidden
intelligence which is yet to get discovered.
This path-breaking reforms recommended
will bring about a paradigm shift by
equipping our students, teachers and
educational institutions with the right
competencies and capabilities and also
create an enabling and reinvigorated
educational eco-system for a vibrant new
India.
