San Joaquin Literacy DirectoryPreface
Now in its third edition, the San Joaquin Literacy Directory is intended to provide families, social-service professionals, and educators with accurate and comprehensive information about literacy services in our county.
We hope changes made to previous editions will make the directory even more useful. The entries have been simplified and standardized. The direc-tory has been organized under three categories: Birth to 5 Years; 5 Years to 8th Grade; and 9th Grade to Adult. Entries within each of the three categories have been placed in alphabetical order. Additional information about the programs has been placed in an appendix.
We hope the directory will contribute to the efforts of parents, social-service professionals, educators, and community leaders to create a vibrant support network for San Joaquin County children so they can develop a love of reading and succeed in school.

San Joaquin Literacy Directory
We would like to expand our listings
If you represent an agency or know of one that provides no-cost or low-cost literacy services, please contact Sam Hatch ([email protected]) or Bob Morrow ([email protected]). We would like to include as many literacy service programs as we can.
Acknowledgments
We are grateful to Dr. Kathy Hart, Superintendent-President of San Joaquin Delta College, for her generous grant, which allowed us to print this directory. We appreciate the kindness of Elizabeth O. Dulemba in allowing us to use two of her illustrations. We also thank Gil Vanover and his staff in the San Joaquin Delta College Publication Center for their help. This directory would not have been compiled without the commit-ment and assistance of Bob Morrow, Central Valley Regional Manager for Bring Me A Book, and several Delta College faculty, including Linda Nugent, Michelle Marta, and Sam Hatch. A special thanks also goes to another Delta faculty member, Bonnie Ruth Scott, who designed the directory. We also owe thanks to Susan Hatch, who formatted an early draft of the directory.
We appreciate the support of Mayor Ann Johnston of Stockton, Lani Schiff-Ross of First Five San Joaquin, and Jamie Baiocchi of the San Joaquin County Office of Education. All three were encouraging from the earliest stages of this project..
